Four Teams Advance in United East Men's Basketball Opening Round Games

LATHAM, N.Y. - The divisional semifinals are set after Saturday’s First Round games in the 2024 United East Men’s Basketball Championships.

Volt Division - #4 Penn College def. #5 Penn State Berks, 100-71 - Box Score
Penn College’s Gavin Barrett earned his second consecutive triple-double - sixth in his career - finishing with 22 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists as the Wildcats eliminated Penn State Berks 100-71 on Saturday afternoon.  Livingston Cross had 31 points and 15 assists for his 15th double-double of the season while Landon Reeder had 20 points and Ronn Flood, Jr had 14 points as the Wildcats shot 55.2% (37-67) from the field.  The Nittany Lions were led by Marquis Ferreira’s 18 points while Andre Ballard and Matthew Gingerich both contributed 12 points.  Jaedon Mast had 11 points to give Berks 4 players with double-digit points.

Volt Division - #3 St. Mary’s College of Maryland  def. #6 Gallaudet University, 70-47 - Box Score
St. Mary’s defeated Gallaudet for the fourth time this season with a 70-47 decision on Saturday afternoon in the first round of the United East championship.  Four different Seahawks were double-digit scorers led by Daryn Alexander with 19 points, followed by Micah Henry with 13 points, Gary Grant with 11 points off the bench, and Jake Koverman with 10 points.  Gallaudet had Blessed Mbogo and Rory Lewis leading the way with 12 points each. 
 
Skye Division - #3 St. Elizabeth University def. #6 University of Valley Forge, 89-75 - Box Score
St. Elizabeth held serve at home on Saturday afternoon as the Eagles defeated the University of Valley Forge 89-75 to advance in the United East Men’s Basketball championship.  Jonathan Ramos had 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting, including 3-of-6 three pointers while Tye-Rell Monroe chipped in 16 points, 2 steals, 2 blocks, and 6 rebounds in 39 minutes.  D’Angelo Blackmond was 6-of-10 from the field for 15 points and 8 rebounds.  Jeremiah Daye had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Patriots while Keyshawn Kennedy went 10-for-16 from the free throw line en route to 26 points and played all 40 minutes. 
 
Skye Division - #4 Keystone College def. #5 Cairn University, 101-86 - Box Score
Jack Anderson had 40 points on 60% shooting from the field and 50% shooting from behind the arc and D’Andre Sutherland had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds as the Keystone Giants eliminated Cairn on Saturday afternoon.  Brandon Scott had 6 steals for the Giants to go with 14 points and five assists.  Cairn’s duo of Derian Bradford and Aytor Alberto led the Highlanders with 25 and 24  points, respectively, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the hot shooting of Keystone.  Senior Owen Bradford had a double-double for the Highlanders, putting up 13 points and 11 rebounds as he scored his 1,000th career point at the end of the game.
