Four Teams Advance in United East Women's Basketball Opening Round Games

LATHAM, N.Y. - The divisional semifinals are set after Saturday’s First Round games in the 2024 United East Women’s Basketball Championships.

Skye Division - #3 Bryn Athyn College def. #6 Cedar Crest College, 69-49 - Box Score
Bryn Athyn picked up the first postseason victory in program history on Saturday afternoon as the Lions defeated the visiting Cedar Crest Falcons.  Zhymani Smith led the way for the Lions dropping 25 points while Alayna Day added 18 points and Alexa Osafo-Mensah was well-rounded contributing 9 points, 7 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 4 steals.  Bryn Athyn had 40 points in the paint and forced 27 turnovers in the afternoon. Caylie Long led the Falcons with 12 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block and four steals while NIcole Sachman and Bryanna Rivera each had 11 points, with Sachman completing the double-double with 11 rebounds as well. 

Skye Division - #5 Cairn University def. #4 Wilson College, 91-74 - Box Score
Cairn went on the road to Wilson and came away with a 91-74 victory on Saturday afternoon in the first round of the United East playoffs; their first postseason victory since the 2009-2010 season.  First-year Makayla Raines had a game-high 47 points on 18-34 shooting and added 8 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 assists to the tally.  Her 47 points is the third-most in a single game this season in NCAA Division III and fifth-most in all of NCAA Basketball.  Taylor Hinson added 16 points while Ella Quince had a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds.  For Wilson, Jewels Torres finished with a career-high 26 points while Adrianna Stricek finished with her conference-best 15th double-double scoring 13 points and pulling down 14 rebounds.

Volt Division - #4 St. Mary’s College def. #5 Lancaster Bible College, 85-69 - Box Score
St. Mary’s advanced to the second round after a 85-69 win over Lancaster Bible on Saturday afternoon.  Tramarie Mobray led the way with a team-high 21 points, collected 8 rebounds, handed out five assists and had three steals while Olivia Liszt finished with 20 points.  Amira Whitaker had a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds.  For the Chargers, Rachel Nolt double-doubled with 19 points and 10 rebounds while Alaysha Iwais had 17 points, 6 assists and 4 rebounds.

Volt Division - #3 Penn State Abington  def. #6 Penn College, 71-46 - Box Score
Penn State Abington picked up their first postseason victory since 2019 defeating Penn College on Saturday afternoon. Abington’s Angela Sanders picked up her 13th double-double of the season, and 37th of her career after posting 19 points and 11 rebounds.  Sanders is now one rebound away from becoming the program’s all-time rebounding leader. Amirah Hackney had a game-high 26 points while Kaya Mobley pulled down 11 rebounds with 8 assists, 6 steals, and 8 points.  For the Wildcats, Lexi Troup led with 12 points, and Rachel Teats finished with 11 points.
