United East Unveils 2023-24 Men's Basketball - Skye Division - All-Conference Teams and Major Award Winners

LATHAM, N.Y. -  The United East conference has announced its 2023-24 Men’s Basketball All-Conference Teams for the Skye Division.  The All-Conference Teams are made up of six student-athletes on each team with three separate teams for this season.  Four major awards have been handed out including Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and Coach of the Year.

Eight separate Skye Division institutions were represented across the three All-Conference teams.  Bryn Athyn College led the way with four individuals named All-Conference while Wilson College and Saint Elizabeth University each had three individuals named All-Conference, respectively.  Keystone College, Cairn University, and Clarks Summit University each had two members of the All-Conference team, respectively.  University of Valley Forge and Rosemont College were each represented by one member on the teams.

Wilson College’s Darryl Garib (Sr. / Dallas, Tx.) has been named the 2023-24 United East Player of the Year - Skye Division after leading the Phoenix to a Skye Division Regular Season title, a 13-3 conference record, and the #1 seed for the Skye Division playoffs.  In conference play, Garib was 2nd in the United East averaging 21.5 points and 10th in the United East with 7.8 rebounds per game.  Garib was integral to a Wilson offense that averaged 75.1 points per game and had six double-doubles on the season; including a 44-point, 13 rebound performance against Keystone on December 2, 2023 that set the new single-game scoring record for Wilson College.  Garib earned United East Player of the Week three separate times this season.
 
Ibraheem Bundu (Sr. / Bowie, Md.) from Wilson College is the 2023-24 United East Defensive Player of the Year - Skye Division after the Phoenix won the Skye Division Regular Season title with a 13-3 conference record and #1 seed for the Skye Division playoffs.  Bundu controlled the paint for the Phoenix leading the United East in Total Blocked Shots (38) while averaging 2.4 blocks per game in league play and totaled 53 blocked shots across the whole of the season.  Bundu anchored a defense that allowed 69.4 points per game; good for third in the United East.    Bundu was named United East Player of the Week twice during the season; February 12, 2024, and January 22, 2024. 
 
Dejuan Taylor (FY / Columbia, Md.) had an impactful debut season for Rosemont, averaging 11.0 points and 4.8 rebounds while starting 20 out of the 24 games he appeared in and earned the 2023-24 United East Rookie of the Year - Skye Division.  Taylor shot 51.9% from the floor and scored in double-digits 14 times, with three 20+ point games across the season.   Taylor had two double doubles this season with the first coming on November 29th against Wilson (18 pts, 11 rebounds) and the second coming against Keystone on January 22 where he had 12 points and 10 rebounds.  Taylor was named Player of the Week for the week of January 22, 2024, after averaging 17.0 points and 6.0 rebounds while shooting 59% from the field against Saint Elizabeth and Clarks Summit. 
 
Sean Westerlund guided Bryn Athyn to the best season in program history during the 2023-24 season.  The Lions entered the United East Playoffs as the #2 seed in the Skye Division with a 17-8 record and 12-4 in conference play; both the highest win totals in program history.   In conference play, the Lions defense held opponents to 68.4 points per game, good for second in the United East while holding opponents to the lowest 3-Point Field Goal Percentage in the league at 27.2%.  This is the first Coach of the Year honor for Westerlund.
