St. Mary's College Heads Back to Men's Lax Championship Final

ST. MARY’S CITY, Md. - St. Mary’s College of Maryland punched its third-straight ticket to the United East Men’s Lacrosse Championship Final as the top-seeded Seahawks upended No. 4 Cairn, 27-3, in the semifinal matchup. The Seahawks will now wait to see who they play as they will take on the winner of No. 2 Penn College and No. 3 Keystone College in the other semifinal matchup.

The offense was cooking for the home side as they put up seven goals in the first three periods and six in the final. A total of 14 Seahawk players scored including a team-high five by Liam McNutly. Drew Goldschieder and Mark LoPresto each tallied three while five other players registered multi-goal games. Keegan Preis added five assists to his two goals, making his seven points the most on the field.

Matteo Ciccarello was a huge component to the offense as he successfully won 29 of his 33 face offs taken. That equated to 23 groundballs, marking his second 20-plus groundball game this season.

Cairn’s Jonathan Balsamo was the main supplier of offense for the Highlanders as he netted a team-high two goals. Nico Cione garnered the loss in net despite making 24 saves, just five less than his season-best.
