DALLAS, Pa. - Keystone College opened the NCAA Division III Baseball Championships on Friday afternoon with a 10-5 victory over Middlebury College.
Playing at No. 1 seed and host, Misericordia University, the Giants scored seven runs in the final two innings to expand a 3-1 lead and ultimately hold on to the 10-5 victory.
The Giants offense racked up 16 hits, including 4 doubles and 4 stolen bases. Nate Ewing led the way by going 5-for-5 with three runs scored, an RBI, and a double. Justin Mann went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI, a double and a run scored while Robert Estrada and Jacob Yager each had two hits: with two doubles for Yager.
Brayan Villar pitched into the 8th inning ultimately finishing with 7+ innings pitched, scattering three hits but giving up three runs and striking out four batters. Drew Sorrent threw the 8th inning and Dylan Byler closed things out in the 9th inning for the Giants.
With the win this afternoon, Keystone moves to 34-11 while Middlebury falls to 30-12. Keystone will play No. 11 and host Misericordia (35-9) at Noon on Saturday afternoon in the winner’s bracket game after Misericordia defeated St. John Fisher earlier in the day. Middlebury falls into the elimination game at 8:30am against St. John Fisher.
