ST. MARY’S CITY, Md. - The St. Mary’s College of Maryland men’s lacrosse team defeated Penn College, 23-4, Saturday afternoon in the United East Championship Title Game. The victory marks the squad’s third-straight conference title and also punches their ticket to the 2024 NCAA Division III Championship.
The first quarter played close as the Seahawks held a 4-2 lead after 15 minutes of play. They then went on a 16-0 scoring run that lasted until the final seconds of the third quarter. The lead was too much for the Wildcats to overcome, leading to St. Mary’s College hoisting the trophy.
A total of 13 different Seahawks registered a point, led by Nate Hochrein who amassed seven on five goals and two assists. Johnny McGrain pitched in six point (2G, 4A) en route to be tabbed the game’s Most Valuable Player. Keegan Preis (5A) and Declan Horton (3G, 2A) each finished with five points as well.
Matteo Ciccarello dominated at the restart, winning 18 of his 29 faceoff attempts. That also led to a team-high 10 ground balls.
