LATHAM, N.Y. - Day two of the 2024 United East Baseball Championship saw plenty of action with multiple teams collecting wins.
In the Skye Division, Keystone College punched its ticket to the final day as it downed Wilson, 11-4. Cairn worked its way through the losers bracket beating both Rosemont and Wilson to join Keystone. They will square off on Sunday at 11 a.m. with a second game to come directly afterwards if needed
The Volt Division saw St. Mary’s College take down Penn State Abington in a slugfest before Harrisburg took care of Lancaster Bible 17-8. The final game of the day between the Chargers and Seahawks was postponed due to daylight. They will pick up play at 12 p.m. on Monday with the winner taking on Harrisburg directly afterwards. The if necessary game seven would then be scheduled for Tuesday.
SKYE DIVISION
GAME 3: Cairn def. Rosemont, 3-2
A Zach Bauers home run in the eighth was the difference maker as it broke a 2-2 stalemate. Cairn got scoring going in the fourth with a sac fly. The Highlanders then doubled up with an RBI single in the fifth. The Ravens tied things back up in the seventh as a Brian DiDonato double plated a pair.
Greg Jessup was credited with the win for Cairn, tossing the final three innings without allowing a run.
GAME 4: Keystone def. Wilson 11-4.
The Phoenix got the ball rolling as they plated one in the first and one in the third, both on Keystone errors. The Giants answered back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the third, scoring on a hit-by-pitch and a sacrifice fly. Wilson retook the lead in the fourth with an RBI single but a three-run fifth and a four-run sixth by Keystone opened up the game.
Josh Parks led the Giant offense as he went 3-for-4 with three RBI. Bobby Porkoney finished the contest 4-for-6 from the leadoff position. Brayan Villar was named the winning pitcher, throwing the first 6.2 innings for the Giants.
GAME 5: Cairn def. Wilson, 8-7
The Phoenix got on the board first, scoring three unanswered through the first 1.5 innings. In the bottom of the second, Cairn was able to get on the board as two crossed on a Wilson error. The Highlanders then took the lead later in the frame as a Tyler Warr double scored three. Cairn eventually got up 7-3 by the sixth but a four-run frame knotted the game back up momentarily. The bottom of the frame, Cairn was able to regain the lead with an RBI single.
Wilson had a good opportunity to score in the last inning as they had bases loaded with no outs but a good showing by Greg Jessup on the mound nullified the comeback bid. Jessup would end up the win, throwing 3.2 scoreless innings.
VOLT DIVISION
GAME 3: St. Mary’s College def. Penn State Abington, 17-10
A hectic start to the game which included grand slams from both Josh Baar (PSA) and Chase O’Dell (SMC) left the Seahawks up 7-6 after two frames. After a quiet third, St. Mary’s scored seven more through the next two while Abington only plated a pair. Up 14-8, the Seahawks outscored 3-2 over the final four to keep their postseason alive.
O’Dell finished the day 4-for-5 from the dish, plating four runs. He was helped by Trevor Smith who also went 4-for-5 with three RBI. Ryder Chalk earned the win on the hill as he struck out seven through 8.0 innings.

The Chargers got on top first, scoring three runs on two errors and a wild pitch. The Lions countered immediately as the squad put a five spot up in the bottom of the first.
