LATHAM, N.Y.- St. Mary's College of MD (13-6) dominated Farmingdale State (16-3) in a 16-8 victory to advance to the second round of the 2024 Men's Lacrosse DIII NCAA Championships.
The Seahawks led the first period after 15 minutes of play with a hot 6-1 start to the contest. They went on to win the following three periods, 10-7 to outlast Farmingdale. The first-period lead gave the Seawhawks a large cushion for the remainder of the match to coast to victory.
The Seahawks dominated on the offensive end of the ball as seven players recorded at least one goal and eight registering at least one point. Joshua Martel and Declan Horton led the way with four goals each. Horton also chipped in two assists. Keegan Preis served as the main facilitator for the offense, with five assists and three goals, accounting for eight Seahawk points. Drew Goldschider got on the board with two goals, while three additional Seahawks recorded one goal.
Matteo Ciccarello held down the defensive end for the Seahawks, winning 15 of his 25 faceoffs. Ciccarello also recorded a game-high of 13 groundballs. Cullen McKay recorded 7 saves en route to a victory.
The Seahawks will travel to Troy, N.Y. for the second of the tournament at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and face off with No. 3 RPI (16-2) on Saturday, May 11.
