United East Athletes of the Week - January 27 2025

LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East conference has announced its Athletes of the Week for January 27, 2025.  Today will include Athletes of the Week for Men’s and Women’s Basketball as well as Men’s Volleyball. 

This week’s selections included contests from Monday, January 20 through Sunday, January 26, 2025. A total of 6 student athletes were recognized for their performances.

  • Offensive Player of the Week

    Ahjionae Cobb / JR / Saint Elizabeth University / Landing, N.J. / Pope John XXIII

    Cobb had the offense cooking as she piled up 54 points over two conference wins last week. The junior led the week off with a double-double in the victory over Rosemont, collecting 10 boards and 21 points. She then scored a season-best 33 points in the win over Wilson. At the conclusion of the week, she was shooting at a 60.0% clip from the field. Cobb wasn’t just scoring either as she ended the stint with six assists and four offensive boards.

    This is the first Player of the Week award for Cobb.

    Defensive Player of the Week

    Paige Neal / SR / Saint Elizabeth University / Hackensack, N.J. / Hackensack

    Neal did a little of everything for the Eagles this past week, helping her squad go 2-0 in two big conference matchups. The senior controlled the paint as she racked up six blocks on the week including four in the win over Wilson. She also had quick hands as she forced a pair of steals in both contests. Against the Phoenix, Neal collected 16 boards to give her 22 on the week.

    This is the first Player of the Week award for Neal.

  • Offensive Player of the Week

    Will Little / JR / Bryn Athyn College / Baltimore, Md. / Mt. Carmel

    Little helped lead the Lions to a perfect week while shooting an efficient 54% from the field while averaging 20 points per contest and pulling down 5 rebounds a game, dishing out 2 assists per game, nabbing 1.5 steals per contest and blocking one shot per game. Little best game came against St. Mary's where he registered a stat line of 18 points, 7 boards, 2 blocks, 1 assist, and 1 steal while shooting 50% from the field and 67% from beyond the arch.

    This is the first Player of the Week award for Little this season but his third overall. He was tabbed the Offensive Player of the Week on January 29, 2024 and the Defensive Player of the Week on February 5, 2024.

     

    Defensive Player of the Week

    Yassine Idrissa / FY / St. Mary's College of Maryland / Rockville, Md. / Wootton

    Yassine Idrissa contributed 16 points, five rebounds (three defensive), one block, and one assist in the Seahawks' 74-65 road loss to Bryn Athyn. Idrissa then notched 19 points in SMCM's 81-58 home win over Gallaudet, coming alive in the second half with 17. He also posted game-bests of eight boards (five defensive) and seven blocks plus two assists and a career-best two steals. Idrissa wrapped up the week with 18 points and a game-best nine caroms (eight defensive) plus three blocks, two assists and one steal in an 85-82 road triumph over Valley Forge. For the week, Idrissa shot 79.2-percent from the floor and 71.4-percent from the charity stripe. He totaled 53 points, 22 rebounds (16 defensive), 11 blocks, five assists, and three steals.

    This is the second Player of the Week award for Idrissa, who previously won for the week of December 9, 2024. 

     

  • Offensive Player of the Week

    Miles Shepard / FR / Bryn Athyn College / Wilbraham, Mass. / Westfield

    Shepard entered the 2025 season with a bang, registering 46 kills in a 1-1 week for the Lions. The first year registered 23 kills in the win over Pratt on Saturday, hitting at a clip of .235. He then doubled his kill output in a setback against Lehman. Shepard added 22 digs and four assists to his statline as well.

    This is the first Player of the Week award for Shepard.

     

    Defensive Player of the Week

    Kennedy Ibezim / JR / Saint Elizabeth University / West Orange, N.J. / West Orange

    Ibezim got his junior season off to a great start, acting as a defensive force at the net. The 6-5 middle ended with 11 blocks across four matches, including six solo stuffs. Ibezim’s best outing came in the win over Brooklyn as he recorded two blocks, six digs as well as a season best five kills. 

    This is the first Player of the Week award for Ibezim.
