Seahawks Conclude Field Hockey Season in Opening Round of NCAA Championship

CARLISLE, Pa. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team fell 3-1 to Dickinson College Wednesday afternoon in the opening round of the 2025 NCAA Championship. The Seahawks conclude a 13-6 season with the title of United East Champions.

Both teams were held scoreless throughout the first quarter as St. Mary's outshot Dickinson 4-3 while Dickinson held the edge in corners, 4-1. Dickinson was first to find the back of the cage in the 24th minute, but the Seahawks were able to double down on defense to keep the score at 1-0 going into the half.

The Seahawks came into the third quarter ready to get on the board as Brenna Ziegler created an opportunity for herself and scored to knot things up at 1-1. The teams battled to the end of the period, both working to get the go-ahead. 

Dickinson started the fourth quarter off strong with a goal at the 48th minute marker. Dickinson earned the insurance goal six minutes later to ultimately take the win, 3-1.

Dickinson held the 11-5 advantage on shots on goal. St. Mary's goalkeeper, Sophia Kent, logged 8 saves in the cage.
