Gallaudet Bison Punch Ticket to the NCAA Tournament with OT Victory

ST. MARY’S CITY, MD. - The United East crowned a women’s basketball champion on Saturday afternoon as Gallaudet University defeated St. Mary’s College (Md.) on the campus of St. Mary’s College.  With the win, Gallaudet University has earned the automatic qualifier to the upcoming NCAA Championship.

Gallaudet will learn their host location and future opponent during the NCAA Selection Show which premiers on Monday, March 3 at 2:30 p.m. on NCAA.com.

Gallaudet University clinched the United East women's basketball championship in dramatic fashion, edging out St. Mary's College (Md.) 71-70 in an overtime thriller. The teams traded blows early, finishing the first quarter deadlocked at 13 apiece, but the Bison gained momentum in the second, outscoring the Seahawks 15-10 behind strong rebounding and turnover conversions. St. Mary's roared back in the third with a 53.3% shooting effort to seize the lead, but Gallaudet responded in the fourth, shooting 60% from the field to keep pace. With five seconds left, St. Mary’s College Ji-Young Hartman’s clutch three-pointer forced overtime, setting the stage for a tense finish. In the extra period, both teams battled until Raj Guettler delivered the game-winning layup at the buzzer, sealing Gallaudet’s championship victory. Guettler led the way with 24 points on 68.6% shooting and eight rebounds. Olivia Liszt paced St. Mary's with 18 points and six rebounds. The Bison’s resilience and late-game execution earned them the title in unforgettable fashion.
