United East Athletes of the Week - April 14, 2025

LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East conference has announced its Athletes of the Week for April 14, 2025.  Today will include Players of the Week for men’s and women's lacrosse, baseball and softball.

This week’s selections included contests from Monday, April 7 through Sunday, April 13, 2025. A total of eight student athletes were recognized for their performances.

  • Defensive Player of the Week

    Carsyn Smith / JR / St. Mary's College of Maryland / Crownsville, Md. / Old Mill

    Carsyn Smith collected six draw controls, four ground balls, and four caused turnovers plus scoring her third career goal. Smith tallied four ground balls, four draw controls and three caused turnovers plus her first goal of the season in a 22-4 win over Wilson. She ended the week with two draw controls and a caused turnover in a 29-0 shutout of Cedar Crest.

    This is the third Defensive Player of the Week in Smith's career (4/7/25 | 3/24/25).

     

    Offensive Player of the Week

    Hailey Betch / SR / St. Mary's College of Maryland  / Severna Park, Md. / Severna Park

    Hailey Betch paced the Seahawks in a 2-0 week with 10 points on five goals and five assists while Betch accomplished four career milestones. She started the week with two goals and two assists plus a season-best three ground balls, a career-high three caused turnovers, and two draw controls in a 22-4 win over Wilson. Betch ended the week with three goals and three assists plus four draw controls and one caused turnover in a 29-0 shutout of Cedar Crest. In the victory over Cedar Crest, she eclipsed the 200-goal career mark, the 100-assist career mark, the 300-point career mark, and the 250-draw control career mark.

    This is Betch's third Player of the Week award this season and sixth of her career (3/10/25 | 02/02/23 | 02/02/24 | 04/15/24 | 02/24/25)

  • Player of the Week

    Cole Tarleton / SR / St. Mary's College of Maryland / Hollywood, Md. / Leonardtown

    Cole Tarleton eclipsed the 150-hit career mark with his second hit in the team's 5-1 win over Saint Elizabeth (Game 1). Tarleton started the week by going 4-for-5 with a triple (career-best four hits) in a 13-7 road win over Notre Dame (Md.). He also drove in two runs and scored a pair while stealing a base. He then went 2-for-3 with a triple in a 5-1 victory over Saint Elizabeth (Game 1). Tarleton notched an RBI and a run as well. In the nightcap with Saint Elizabeth, he finished 2-for-4 with a home run and a double. Tarleton claimed a career-best four RBI and one run, too.

    This is the first Player of the Week award for Tarleton of his career.

    Pitcher of the Week

    Gianni Serenelli / FR / Penn State Brandywine / Fairless Hills, Pa. / Conwell-Egan Catholic

    Gianni Serenelli fired a complete-game shutout to lift Brandywine to its first United East victory in a 9-0 triumph over Penn State Abington. Serenelli struck out five and limited Abington to six hits in nine innings to earn his first win of his college career. The nine-inning shutout was Brandywine's first since March 22, 2019.

    This is the first Pitcher of the Week award for Serenelli of his career.

  • Player of the Week

    Emma McElroy / FY / Penn State Brandywine / Mountainside, N.J. / Governor Livingston

    Emma McElroy had a big week at the plate, going 14-for-22, while extending her hitting streak to 10-straight games. She recorded three-hit games against Rosemont and Washington College and was 4-for-4 in game two on Sunday in a win at Penn College. McElroy scored eight runs, had seven RBI, four stolen bases and hit the first two home runs of her college career. 

    This is McElroy's first Player of the Week award in her career.

    Pitcher of the Week

    Paige Brightwell / SO / Penn State Berks / Pittstown, N..J. / Delaware Valley

    Brightwell had another outstanding week, earning shutout victories over Keystone College and the University of Valley Forge. She only allowed two hits in each while racking up six strike outs in her 5.0 innings of action against Keystone and  striking out seven in the teams win over UVF. Brightwell has not allowed a run in her last 7 appearances, totaling 31.2 innings in the circle, dropping her season ERA to 1.02. 

    This is the second Pitcher of the Week award for Brightwell this season and her fourth in her career (04/07/24 | 03/25/24 | 04/15/24)

  • Offensive Player of the Week

    Declan Horton / SO / St. Mary's College of Maryland / University Park, Md. / Demantha Catholic

    Declan Horton finished the Seahawks' 1-1 week with three goals and five assists and along the way, Horton tallied his 100th career point. He began the week by dishing out a season-best three assists in a 24-1 road win over Cairn. Horton then notched a season-high five points on three goals and two assists to lead SMCM in a tough 14-11 loss to No. 17 Dickinson while adding two ground balls. With his second point of the game, he eclipsed the 100-point career mark.

    This is the second Player of the Week award for Dotson of his career (02/17/25).

    Defensive Player of the Week

    Will Hock / SO / St. Mary's College of Maryland / Arlington, Va. / Yorktown

    Will Hock collected eight ground balls and one caused turnover in a 1-1 week for the Seahawks. Hock scooped up three loose balls and a caused turnover in a 24-1 road win over Cairn. He then picked up five loose balls in a tough 14-11 loss to No. 17 Dickinson.

    This is Hock's first Player of the Week award of his career.
