Softball 5/2/2025 8:43:54 PM Four Teams Advance in Softball Championship LATHAM, N.Y. - The Second Round of the United East Softball Championship saw sweeps all around as all four series only needed two games to decide the weekend outcome. Penn State Berks, Penn State Brandywine, Penn State Harrisburg, and Penn College all earned their victories on home turf. These four teams will now square off in a double-elimination tournament next weekend to determine the United East Champion. Find all of the tournament details HERE: 2025 SOFTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP PAGE No. 5 Saint Elizabeth University at No. 4 Penn College Game 1: Penn College def. Saint Elizabeth, 4-0 (BOX SCORE) A first inning single from Grace Lorson got the first run on the board as that drove in Mackenzie Weaver for the Wildcats. Scoring halted until the fourth but the home team doubled up their lead then. Penn College then added another two runs in the fourth to complete the game’s scoring. Weaver threw a gem as she went the distance to collect the win. She’d allow just a trio of hits across the seven inning while sitting down eight Eagle batters. Game 2: Penn College def. Saint Elizabeth, 8-0 (6 Inn.) (BOX SCORE) Mackenzi Tice was the highlight of this contest as she pitched a no-hitter to help Penn College sweep the series. Tice punched out 10 and only a pair of walks kept the first year from earning a perfect game. Payton Crawford went a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate, pushing across a trio of runs over as well. Lorson picked up three hits as well. No. 8 Penn State Abington at No. 1 Penn State Berks Game 1: Penn State Berks def. Penn State Abington, 6-0 (BOX SCORE) Berks sprinkled runs in every inning but the third to help secure the game one win. Peyton Vivian used an RBI single to score one in the first and a Naomi Fay ground out plated another in the second. An Ashlyn Sherwood single made the score 3-0 in the fourth and Berks tallied another pair in the fifth. Vivian bookended her outing with an RBI single in the sixth to complete the scoring. Paige Brightwell notched the shutout win, allowing just five hits and striking out four through 7.0 innings of work. Game 2: Penn State Berks def. Penn State Abington, 6-0 (BOX SCORE) Penn State Berks secured a 2–0 victory over Penn State Abington. The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fifth, when Penn State Berks capitalized on Naomi Fay’s single and a well-placed fielder’s choice bunt by Peyton Vivian, coupled by an Abington error. Penn State Abington pushed late in the game to get on the board, but they were unable to push any runs across. Pitcher Mallory Duff earned the win for Penn State Berks pitching 6.1 innings for the Lions, while Paige Brightwel recorded the save. No, 7 Wilson College at No. 2 Penn State Brandywine Game 1: Penn State Brandywine def. Wilson, 6-1 (BOX SCORE) After a scoreless first, Brandywine racked up four runs in the bottom of the second frame. Singles from Gigi Duca and Emma McElroy represented three RBI and a Lexi Bussenger walk added the fourth. Wilson picked up their sole run in the fourth on a Jenna Weaver RBI single but a Bussenger RBI single in the bottom of the inning matched that. The final run for Brandywine came by way of a Madie Culbertson RBI single to center. April Lewandowski picked up her 16th win in the circle, striking out five in a complete game effort. Game 2: Penn State Brandywine def. Wilson, 7-6 (BOX SCORE) Penn State Brandywine defeated Wilson College 7–6 in a closely contested matchup. Wilson took an early lead with two runs in the first inning, scoring off sacrifice flies by Katelyn Kell and Sydney Hartl. Penn State Brandywine responded in the bottom of the first with a two-run homer by Kaylee Mushinski, bringing the score to 2–2. The game remained tied until the third inning when Penn State Brandywine took a 4–3 lead, thanks to a wild pitch that allowed Madie Culbertson to score and an RBI single by Jordan DuBois. Wilson regained the lead in the fourth inning with an RBI single by Lindsey Dale, making it 4–4. In the sixth inning, Penn State Brandywine capitalized on a two-RBI single by Emma McElroy and a run from a fielder's choice by Mushinski, giving them a 7–5 advantage. Wilson managed to score one more run in the seventh inning with an RBI double by Kayla Talber, but Penn State Brandywine's defense held strong to secure the victory. Isabella Hurta earned the win for Penn State Brandywine, pitching a complete game. No. 6 Cedar Crest College at No. 3 Penn State Harrisburg Game 1: Penn State Harrisburg def. Cedar Crest, 10-2 (6 Inn.) (BOX SCORE) The Falcons got their runs early as an error in the second inning allowed two to score. The lead only lasted momentarily though as Harrisburg scored six in the bottom of the frame. Madelyn Lehigh plated two with a single down the line and Rylee Martinez added another with a sac fly. Emily Cutman pushed another two in with a double and Ava Allison plated the sixth with a sac fly. The scoring continued with two more in the fourth with a Lehigh single and an Aspen Walker double. And the game was then called in the sixth as another pair of runs were plated in the sixth. Kylee Miller for the complete game victory, her 12th on the season. Miller allowed just two hits while maintaining the 0.00 ERA. Game 2: Penn State Harrisburg def. Cedar Crest, 11-1 (5 Inn.) (BOX SCORE) Penn State Harrisburg dominated Cedar Crest with an 11–1 victory in a five-inning game. The Lions' offense was explosive, scoring 11 runs on 15 hits. Penn State Harrisburg put up eight in the bottom of the third, as Rylee Martinez reached on an error to start the inning followed by a slew of hits through the lineup. Penn State Harrisburg was able to fend off the Falcons through the fifth, when Cedar Crest got on the board after putting together a run off of a T. Faw double and N. Hasert’s single. Mackenzie Fisher led the team with three hits and two RBIs. Pitcher Carissa Yeager earned the win with a solid three-inning performance, allowing just two hits and no earned runs.
