Gallaudet's Atkinson Named D3SIDA Region II Athletic Communicator of the Year

WASHINGTON D.C. - Sam Atkinson, the Associate Athletic Director for Communications at Gallaudet University, has been named the D3SIDA (Division III Sports Information Directors of America) Region 2 Communicator of the Year.

“I always wanted to show people that athletic communicators are more than people who can write stories, keep statistics and do social media,” remarked Atkinson. “We all have a lot to offer, we have great insight in collegiate athletics and game operations and most importantly we can lead.”

Atkinson has been leading for a majority of his career as he currently is one of the most veteran administrators in the conference. Entering his 16th year with Gallaudet, his leadership has seeped into arenas off campus as well, including becoming just the second ever Division III President of the College Sports Communicators. He has also served on both the Division III Basketball Committee and the DIII Women’s Volleyball Committee.

“To be the official story teller of Gallaudet Athletics is quite the honor and it comes with great responsibility,” stated Atkinson. “I take great pride to make sure our stories are told in the proper way.”
