NEAC Announces 2012 Men’s Soccer Regular Season All-Conference Selections and Individual Award Winners

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced its 2012 Men's Soccer All-Conference selections, with first, second and third team honors being awarded by position to a total of 33 student-athletes, as selected by the conference coaches.

The NEAC has also announced its individual men's soccer award winners.  Morrisville State College senior forward Sanley Pierre-Louis (Gaithersburg, Md.) was selected as the NEAC Player of the Year after a tremendous season for the Mustangs.  Pierre-Louis scored a conference-best 29 points on a NEAC-leading 14 goals and one assist on the season, with 13 of those scores coming in conference action and three of them being game winners. He had at least two goals in four different contests and registered two hat tricks on the year, which earned him three NEAC Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week awards this season.

His teammate, freshman defender Danny Peckham (Webster, N.Y.), was selected as the NEAC Rookie of the Year.  Although only a first-year player, Peckham was the leader of a Morrisville State defense that had five shutouts and just a 1.37 goal against average on the year, which included four shutouts and 1.08 GAA in conference action.  A sound one-on-one defender, Peckham proved to also be an offensive threat, as he tallied five goals, including a game winner.  His dual abilities led to one NEAC Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week selection.

SUNY Institute of Technology junior Malick Faye (Bronx, N.Y.) was chosen as the NEAC Goalkeeper of the Year after another sensational season guarding the net for the Wildcats.  Faye, who was also the conference's player of the year a season ago, posted a .786 save percentage and a 1.16 goals against average with 77 saves and four shutouts on the season, finishing with a 9-7-2 overall record and helping the two-time defending champion Wildcats secure the fourth seed in the NEAC Men's Soccer Championship Tournament.  Faye also earned one NEAC Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week award this season.

The NEAC Coach of the Year honor went to Penn State Abington's David Castellanos, who was selected by his peers to receive the recognition after guiding the Nittany Lions to their first-ever NEAC regular season championship with a 9-1 conference record.  Castellanos, who is also the head coach of the defending champion Nittany Lion women's soccer team, closed out the regular season with an 11-3 overall record, which was the program's best winning percentage since the 1989 season.
