NEAC Announces 2013 Men’s Soccer All-Conference Selections and Individual Award Winners

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced its 2013 Men's Soccer All-Conference selections, with first, second and third team honors being awarded by position to a total of 33 student-athletes, as selected by the conference coaches.

The NEAC has also announced its individual men's soccer award winners, which were also voted on by the conference coaches.  After a dominant season, SUNY Institute of Technology senior Malick Faye (Bronx, N.Y.) was chosen as both the NEAC Player of the Year and Goalkeeper of the Year.  Faye, who has been named the NEAC's top goalie during all four of his collegiate seasons while twice being named the top player, is currently third in the nation in goals against (5), goals-against average (.295) and save percentage (.935).  He leads the conference in all three aforementioned categories as well, in addition to wins (15), shutouts (12) and minutes (1,527), while being fifth in saves (72). His play in goal also landed him on the NEAC All-Conference First Team for the fourth straight year, in addition to garnering three NEAC Defensive Player of the Week awards throughout the season.

SUNYIT head coach Peterson Jerome was chosen by his peers as the NEAC Coach of the Year after guiding the Wildcats to a program-best 15-1-1 overall record this season, which is the seventh best winning percentage (.912) across all of NCAA Division III.  The Wildcats, who are currently ranked fifth in National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) East Region Top-10 poll, currently lead the nation in save percentage (.923), while being second in team goals-against average (0.35) and third in shutout percentage (.710) under Jerome's guidance.  He has also led SUNYIT to the NEAC regular season championship after going 7-1 in conference play, which earned the Wildcats the top seed and the right to host this weekend's NEAC Championship Tournament.

This year's NEAC Rookie of the Year honor went to Morrisville State College freshman Alan Peckham (Webster, N.Y.) after the midfielder put together a fantastic season for the Mustangs.  Peckham started 16 games for the Mustangs and compiled 10 points on two goals and six assists, with the latter being tied for most in the conference.  He was also very strong defensively, manning the middle of the field for Morrisville State and helping the Mustangs hold the opposition to just 96 shots on the goal this season, which set a new team record. His play on both sides of the field helped lead the Mustangs to a playoff berth with a 5-2-1 conference record while going 10-5-2 overall.
