GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern
Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced its 2012-13 Men’s
Basketball All-Conference Team selections, with first, second and
third team honors being awarded to the top 15 players as selected
by the conference coaches.
The NEAC has also selected its regular season award winners, as
voted on by the coaches. Penn State Abington sophomore
Mike Marvin (Horsham, Pa.) made the leap to NEAC
Player of the Year after being last year’s Rookie of the Year
selection. The 6-foot-5 forward had a tremendous season for
the Nittany Lions, as he led the conference in both points (18.9)
and rebounds (12.6) per game, while being third across all of NCAA
Division III in the latter category and fifth nationally in
double-doubles (16). On top of his two NEAC Student-Athlete
of the Week selections this season, Marvin also earned an Eastern
College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Player of the Week honor and a
Philadelphia Area Small College Basketball Association Sam Cozen
Player of the Week Award.
Marvin also helped Abington to a four-game improvement in
conference play from last year’s 6-8 mark, as the Nittany
Lions finished 10-4 in the NEAC and earned a playoff berth in this
year’s conference championship tournament.
Penn State Berks freshman Dameon Nixon (Coatesville,
Pa.) was selected as the NEAC Rookie of the Year after
making an immediate impact for the Nittany Lions. The
5-foot-11 point guard started in all 24 Nittany Lion contests this
season and led the team in minutes per game (31.5) while running
the offense. He reached double figures in scoring 14
different times this season, including in six of his last seven
games, and currently ranks second on the team in scoring at 10.7
points per game. Nixon is also second on the team in both
steals (50) and assists (75), where he ranks fifth and ninth,
respectively, in the conference.
Penn State Berks head coach Scott Yarnell was
voted by his peers as the NEAC Coach of the Year. Yarnell
guided the Nittany Lions to the program’s first-ever NEAC
South Division regular season championship, as they finished 11-3
in conference play and secured their second straight playoff
berth. Berks, 13-11 overall, will take on Wells College in
the semifinals of this weekend’s conference championship
tournament.
