GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern
Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced its 2012-13 Women’s
Basketball All-Conference Team selections, with first, second and
third team honors being awarded to the top 15 players as selected
by the conference coaches.
The NEAC has also selected its regular season award winners, as
voted on by the coaches. Wells College junior guard
Ashley Roser (Taberg, N.Y.) was selected as the
NEAC Player of the Year after an incredible season for the
Express. Roser, a five-time NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week
award winner this season, currently leads all of NCAA Division III
in both rebounds per game (16.6) and double-doubles (22), while
also leading the NEAC in both points (20.3) and blocks (3.0) per
game. She reached both the 1,000-point and 1,000-rebound
career marks during the season, which was highlighted by a
39-point, 27-rebound performance against SUNYIT on Jan. 27, with
the point total setting a new Wells single-game record and being
just two points shy of the conference’s all-time single-game
mark of 41, while the rebounding total was tied with three former
student-athletes in the NEAC record books as the third-most ever in
one game.
Roser, who was the only player in the conference and just one of
13 players in all of Division III to record a triple-double on the
year, helped lead the Express to their first playoff berth in the
program’s three-year history after guiding them to a
program-best record of 11-6 in the NEAC.
The NEAC Rookie of the Year award went to Lancaster Bible
College’s Aubrey Folger (South
Berwick, Maine) after an outstanding season by the
freshman. Folger, who earned three Student-Athlete of the
Week selections on the year, shattered the program record for
points in a season by a freshman with 392 (15.7 ppg) in 25 games.
The 5-foot-11 guard also posted eight double-doubles this season
and currently leads the Chargers in both rebounds (8.8) and steals
(3.0) per game, while being in the top five in the conference in
points, steals, offensive rebounds (91) and field goals made
(155).
Lancaster Bible College head coach Doug Helsel
was selected by his peers as the NEAC Coach of the Year.
Helsel led the Chargers to a NEAC South Division regular season
championship with a 16-2 conference record while finishing with a
conference-high 21 overall wins (21-4). Helsel’s squad
also earned the right to host the final four round of the NEAC
Championship Tournament this weekend after defeating the North
Division champion Keuka College Storm in their regular season
crossover contest last month.
