Rutgers-Camden Wins 2013 NEAC Golf Championship; All-Conference Team Announced

HARRISBURG, Pa. – For the third time in the past five seasons, the Rutgers University-Camden Scarlet Raptors won the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Men's Golf Championship after carding a two-day score of 618 (306-312) during play on Friday and Saturday at the par-72 Dauphin Highlands Golf Course.

As the NEAC champion, Rutgers-Camden receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships, which will be held May 14-17 at the Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort in Miramar Beach, Fla.

The Scarlet Raptors, who finished as the runners-up the past two seasons in addition to their titles in 2009 and 2010, led the rest of the seven-team field by at least nine strokes after shooting a 306 during the opening round of play on Friday before sealing the deal on Saturday after carding the field's second-best day-two score.  Penn State Harrisburg, which had won the previous two championships, shot a 309 to take round two and finished in second place with a two-day total of 624 (315-309).

Penn State Berks took third place with a team score of 645 (323-322), while SUNY Cobleskill placed fourth with a score of 646 (328-318) and Keuka College finished fifth at 781 (404-377).  Rounding out the field was Cazenovia College (400-405—805) and Penn State Abington (DNQ).

Rutgers-Camden senior Quentin Griffith (Pennsauken, N.J.) was the individual medalist after shooting a 147 through both days, which included a program-tying best round of 69 during day one before finishing with a 78 to be the top finisher out of 34 golfers.  His efforts landed him the NEAC Player of the Year award, while his head coach, Bob Cardea, took home Coach of the Year honors.

Penn State Harrisburg sophomore Matt Plummer (Mechanicsburg, Pa.), last year's Player of the Year, finished in a tie for second with teammate Jason Long (Rockhill Furnace, Pa.) after each shot a 153 across both days.   Long's performance earned him the Rookie of the Year award.

Top finishers for Rutgers-Camden included junior Pete D'Angelo (Delran, N.J.), who shot a 155 (82-73) to finish fifth individually, sophomore Nick Baird (Delran, N.J.) with a score of 157 (75-82) for a tie of seventh place and classmate Louis Wilson (Pitman, N.J.) with a score of 159 (80-79) for a tie of 11th place.

The 2013 All-Conference teams were also selected shortly following the conclusion of the championship, with the top 15 individual performers from the two-day event making up the First, Second and Third Team, respectively.  They are as follows:
