NEAC Announces 2014 Men’s Soccer Regular Season All-Conference Selections and Individual Award Winners

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced its 2014 Men’s Soccer All-Conference selections, with first, second and third team honors being awarded by position to a total of 33 student-athletes, as selected by the conference coaches.

The NEAC has also announced its men’s soccer individual award winners, as also selected by the conference coaches.  Keuka College senior Austin Gerber (Churchville, N.Y.) was chosen as the NEAC Player of the Year after an outstanding season for the Wolfpack.  Gerber, a four-time NEAC Offensive Player of the Week selection this season, has tallied 26 goals and 58 points on the year, which not only leads the NEAC but all of NCAA Division III, as do his averages for goals (1.62) and points (3.62) per game.  His totals for goals and points also set Keuka’s all-time mark for a single season.  Gerber scored at least one goal in 13 out of 16 Wolfpack contests and had at least one point in all but two games, including a five-goal outing and another contest with four goals and an assist, while he also notched four game-winning scores.  His efforts helped lead the Wolfpack to the third seed in the upcoming conference tournament after finishing with a 7-2-1 NEAC record (11-4-1 Overall).

Lancaster Bible College freshman Ivan Correa (Recife, Brazil) was tabbed as the NEAC Rookie of the Year after an excellent season for the Chargers. The forward tallied 11 goals and 24 points on the year, which were the third- and fifth-best ranks in the conference, respectively.  He also had four game-winning goals on the season, which placed him in a three-way tie for most in the NEAC.  His strong play helped land the Chargers in the conference tournament, where they will enter as the second seed after going 7-2-1 in NEAC action (11-5-1 Overall).

The remaining two individual awards went to Morrisville State College, as junior Rob Larkin (Clinton, N.Y.) was named the NEAC Goalkeeper of the Year while head coach Kyle Graves was honored as the NEAC Coach of the Year.  Larkin, the reigning NEAC Defensive Player of the Week selection, led all NEAC goalies in wins (12), goals against (7) and goals-against average (0.64), while being second in save percentage (.837). He also recorded four shutouts and 36 saves on the year, including a season-most seven stops in the Mustangs’ upset over nationally ranked University of Rochester early in the season.

Graves was selected by his peers after leading Morrisville State to a tremendous season, as he guided the Mustangs to the NEAC regular season title and the right to host the upcoming NEAC Championships with a 9-1 conference record while going 14-2 overall, which included the aforementioned win over the nationally ranked Yellowjackets.  The team also went undefeated at home (10-0) for the first time in program history, while currently maintaining a ranking in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division III East Region poll for the past five weeks.  His Mustang squad currently ranks in the top 15 across all of NCAA Division III in points per game (9th - 8.53), win-loss-tie percentage (10th - .867), scoring offense (11th - 3.13), goals (13th - 47) and points (15th - 128).
