GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern
Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced its 2013-14 Men’s
Basketball All-Conference Team selections, with First, Second and
Third team honors being awarded to the top 15 players as selected
by the conference coaches.
The NEAC has also selected its regular season individual award
winners, as voted on by the coaches. Lancaster Bible College junior
Albert Suniga (Phoenix, Ariz.)
was named the NEAC Player of the Year after a terrific season for
the Chargers. The versatile guard led the Chargers in scoring
at 15.5 points per game while also putting up 5.6 rebounds, 3.2
assists and 1 steal per game through 25 contests. He also
shot 49 percent from the field, 44 percent from 3-point land and
nearly 78 percent from the free throw line, with the latter two
both ranking within the top seven in the NEAC, as did his points
and assists per game. Suniga, who earned a NEAC Player of the
Week honor this season, was also named to the All-Conference First
Team.
The NEAC Rookie of the Year honor went to Gallaudet University
freshman Joshua McGriff (Somerset,
N.J.) after an excellent all-around season for the
Bison. The 6-foot-8 forward led the Bison in multiple
categories this season, including points (14.2), rebounds (7.3) and
blocks (2.2) per game in addition to field goal percentage
(57.6). He also ranked in the top-10 across the conference in
all of those areas as well, highlighted by leading the league in
blocks per game while having the second-best field goal
percentage. McGriff scored at least 20 points in four
separate contests and posted four double-double performances on the
year en route to also being named to the All-Conference Third
Team.
Lancaster Bible College’s Marshall Tague
was voted by his peers as the NEAC Coach of the Year after
producing a remarkable turnaround for the Chargers this
season. After finishing last season near the bottom of the
conference standings at 3-11, Tague led his squad to a 13-game
turnaround by going 16-2 in NEAC play and earning the
program’s first-ever regular season conference
championship. He also helped the team improve its overall
record to 18-7 after going 4-22 a year ago. The Chargers will
now host this weekend’s NEAC Championship Tournament as the
top seed of the five-team playoff field.
