NEAC Announces 2014-15 Women’s Basketball All-Conference Selections and Individual Award Winners

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced its 2014-15 Women’s Basketball All-Conference selections, with First, Second and Third Team honors being awarded to the top 15 players as selected by the conference coaches.

The NEAC has also announced its individual award winners, which were also selected by the coaches.  Lancaster Bible College junior Aubrey Folger (South Berwick, Maine) was selected as the NEAC Player of the Year after an excellent season for the Chargers.  The junior forward ranks in the top 10 in numerous statistical categories this season, highlighted by being first in shooting percentage at 52 percent, third in free throw percentage at 78 percent and fourth in both points (18.2) and rebounds (12.5) per game.  Folger is also sixth in blocks (38) and 10th in steals (56), while her 5.4 offensive rebounds per game is currently the third-best average across all of NCAA Division III.  A two-time NEAC Player of the Week selection on the year, Folger has recorded 19 double-doubles this season, the latest of which came in the Chargers’ playoff victory Tuesday night

Folger also scored 20 or more points in game 10 times while helping lead the Chargers (22-4) to their third straight NEAC South Division regular season title with an 18-2 conference record.  Folger, who was also the NEAC Rookie of the Year during her freshman campaign, was an All-Conference selection for the third straight season and a First Team honoree for the second straight time.

SUNY Polytechnic Institute guard Molly Maclachlan (Marcellus, N.Y.) was named the NEAC Rookie of the Year after a terrific freshman campaign for the Wildcats.  Maclachlan led all rookies in scoring at 13.1 points per game behind 60 made 3-pointers, which was the fourth-most in the conference.  She also hauled in 7.6 rebounds per game, which was the 11th-best mark in the NEAC, while adding 55 assists and 43 steals in 25 games on the year.  She was selected as both the NEAC Player of the Week and to the D3Hoops.com National Team of the Week in the same week after producing a stretch of three games with 20-plus points in each.  Maclachlan’s overall play helped the Wildcats win the NEAC North Division regular season title with a 16-2 conference record, which also earned them the top overall seed and the right to host the Final Four round of the NEAC Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament this weekend.

Penn State Abington head coach Stephanie Carideo was selected by her peers as the NEAC Coach of the Year after leading the Nittany Lions to their best season in program history.  In her second year at the helm, Carideo led Abington to a 14-game improvement in the win column from a year ago after posting a program-best 19-5 overall record this season.  She also guided her squad to a 16-4 mark in the NEAC South Division, which led to the Nittany Lions both hosting and winning their first-ever NEAC playoff game during the quarterfinal round Tuesday night.
