SUNY Cobleskill Defeats Lancaster Bible College 49-46 to Claim 2014-15 NEAC Men’s Basketball Championship

LANCASTER, Pa. – Back on February 14, the Lancaster Bible College Chargers escaped Cobleskill with a 55-54 regular season win over the Fighting Tigers after hitting a buzzer-beating jumper.  This time, it was the Fighting Tigers who squeaked out a win, claiming a 49-46 victory after taking the lead with 47 seconds left to play en route to securing the 2014-15 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Championship.

The Fighting Tigers (17-10) will now earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.  They will find out their opponent on Monday at 12:30 p.m. during the NCAA selection show, which can be viewed live here

With less than a minute to play, Cobleskill senior Alexis Nunez (White Plains, N.Y.) drove to the basket and dished the ball to junior Travis Woods (Mount Upton, N.Y.) for a layup that gave the Fighting Tigers a 47-46 lead that they would not relinquish.  The Chargers would turn the ball over on their next possession and thus forced to fall, where freshman Malik Chambers (West Point, N.Y.) sunk both free throws to extend the Fighting Tiger lead to three.  On the Chargers final possession, two 3-point attempts by Chargers junior CJ Dunston (Elton, Md.) came up short and left the Fighting Tigers with their first NEAC title in program history.

The drive and dish by Nunez on the go-ahead basket was just one of many plays made by the veteran guard, as he was named Tournament MVP after finishing with two-game totals of 52 points, including a career-high 33 points in Saturday's semifinal win and a game-high 19 points in the title game.  Nunez, who was also a NEAC All-Conference First Team selection, shot 67 percent (18-of-27) across both games.

Woods finished with eight points and five boards for Cobleskill, while senior and All-Conferencce Third teamer Cortrell King (Brentwood, N.Y.) scored 11 points to go along with five rebounds and two assists.

Dunston, the NEAC Player of the Year, led the Chargers with 11 points, a game-high 12 rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks.  Senior Corey Leonard (Quarryville, Pa.) added 12 points off the bench for Lancaster Bible (24-3).
