Rutgers-Camden Wins Fourth Straight NEAC Men’s Golf Championship; All-Conference Team Announced
COBLESKILL, N.Y. – The Rutgers University-Camden Scarlet Raptors won their fourth straight North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Men's Golf Championship after carding a two-day score of 611 (310-301) at the event, which was hosted by SUNY Cobleskill at the par-70, 6,163-yard Cobleskill Golf & Country Club this Saturday and Sunday.
As the NEAC champion, Rutgers-Camden will now receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Men's Golf Division III Championships.
The Scarlet Raptors led the eight-team field during both days of the tournament en route to the title, thanks to placing five student-athletes in the top eight of the 41-golfer field. Junior Kevin Sarlo (Burlington, N.J.) led the way with a two-day score of 148 (73-75) to place second individually following yesterday's top individual opening round. Junior Ryan Dick (Collingswood, N.J.) placed fourth after carding a 154 (80-74), which also landed him the NEAC Rookie of the Year honor after being the top first-year finisher at the event. Juniors Zach Arsenault (Medford Lakes, N.J.) and Pete Destefano (Collingswood, N.J.) both tied for fifth place with a final score of 155, while freshman Cory Meyer (Bordentown, N.J.) finished eighth with a score of 159 (80-79).
The team performance also helped Rutgers-Camden head coach Bob Cardea land his fifth NEAC Coach of the Year award after a vote of his peers. Along with the fourth consecutive NEAC title, Cardea led the Scarlet Raptors to six first-place finishes during the regular season.
The host Fighting Tigers took runner-up honors with a final score of 629 (314-315). SUNY Cobleskill was led by junior Ian Wilson (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), who was named the NEAC Golfer of the Year after claiming the individual medalist honor with a final score of 147 (75-72). The performance capped off an excellent season for Wilson, who claimed three NEAC Golfer of the Week awards on the year in addition to being named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Co-Golfer of the Month for September. Fighting Tiger sophomore Wyatt Gorham (Fort Edward, N.Y.) and freshman Connor McCarthy (Cobleskill, N.Y.) both tied for ninth place individually with a score of 162.
Morrisville State College place third overall with a team score of 668 (331-337), with junior Darren Young (Woodstock, Ontario, Canada) finishing in seventh place individually after carding a 157 (79-78). Penn State Abington placed fourth with a score of 677 (335-342), as senior and last year's NEAC Golfer of the Year Mike Lam (Langhorne, Pa.) placed third after shooting a 151 (79-72).
Keuka College finished with a score of 683 (342-341) to round out the top-five team finishes. Full team results can be found here, while individual results can be found here.
