NEAC Announces 2017-18 Men's Basketball All-Conference Team & Individual Awards
GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced its 2017-18 Men’s Basketball All-Conference selections, honoring the top 18 players in the league regardless of position. The First, Second and Third Team are each comprised of six players as selected by the conference coaches. Each individual award winner is also determined by coaches’ votes.
After an incredible season for SUNY Poly, Kevin Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was named the NEAC Player of the Year. A three-time NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week, the senior forward has recorded 12 doubles-doubles and leads the league with 512 points through 26 games. In conference play, Williams scored 362 points while averaging a league-leading 22.6 points per game and ranking second with 9.6 rebounds per game. He ranks fifth overall in the NEAC with 221 total rebounds and a 55.4 field-goal percentage. Williams’ impact has not been limited to the offense as he enters the NEAC Semifinals with 31 steals and 20 blocks. In just his second year as a Wildcat, Williams has amassed 941 career points and led his team to a spot in the NEAC Final Four.
As the lone freshman to earn NEAC All-Conference honors, Devin Hill (Philadelphia, Pa.) from Penn State Abington has been named NEAC Rookie of the Year. Hill helped the Nittany Lions secure the No. 4 South Seed as the team’s leading scorer with 362 points. The rookie guard ranks 10th in the NEAC with 265 points against conference opponents, 15th in total points and 14th with 15.1 points per game. He finished the season with 82 rebounds, 60 assists and 22 steals while shooting 47.4 percent in 24 games played. Hill scored 20 or more points on five occasions this season, including a season-high 23 points on Feb. 14 in the Nittany Lions’ win over NEAC Regular Season Champion Lancaster Bible
Lancaster Bible head coach Zach Filzen has been selected as the NEAC Men’s Basketball Coach of the Year after leading the Chargers to the NEAC Regular Season Crown for the fourth time in five seasons with a 15-1 record in league play. In just his third season at the helm, Filzen has led the Chargers to two regular season conference championships and earned his second Coach of the Year award. Filzen’s squad enters the weekend with a 21-5 overall mark and will serve as the host for the NEAC Final Four. Under Filzen’s leadership this season, Lancaster Bible ranks third in the NEAC with 80.1 points per game and boasts the league’s best defense with 70.5 points allowed per game.
