LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East has unveiled its All-Conference Teams as well as its major awards for the 2021 season. The conference has announced two All-Conference teams consisting of three forwards, three midfielders, three defenders, one goal keeper and an at-large student-athlete. The four major awards have also been announced and have been awarded to the following:
Offensive Player of the Year - Joey Aman (Penn State Harrisburg)
Defensive Player of the Year - Michael Albers (Penn State Harrisburg)
Rookie of the Year - Zach Ullum (Penn State Harrisburg)
Coach of the Year - Daniel Krzyzanowicz (Penn State Harrisburg)
Aman was a force the entire season for the Lions, earning him the title of the United East Offensive Player of the Year. The senior cashed in a conference-leading 12 goals this season, five of which were game winners. Aman finished the regular season with 28 points, averaging 2.00 a game which was the 35th most among all Division III players. The Annapolis, Md. was consistently in the running for the conference’s Offensive Player of the Week, winning it on two separate occasions.
Albers anchored one of the top defenses in the country, helping him garner Defensive Player of the Year award. The graduate student started in a backline that allowed just seven goals all season, aiding in maintaining a goal differential that ranks seventh in the country (+49). Albers also played a role in the team’s nine shutouts this year. While not stopping opposing offenses, Albers managed to pitch into his own team’s offense as he finished the regular season with four goals and four assists.
In his first year on a collegiate roster, Ullum impressed as he earned Rookie of the Year honors. A tremendous two-way player, the midfielder was constantly getting the ball to the Lion scorers as he piled up eight assists. Ullum wasn’t afraid to put the ball in the net himself either as he tallied a pair of goals on the season. In week five of the season, Ullum was tabbed the conference’s Defensive Player of the Week.
Despite missing a season due to COVID, Coach Krzyzanowicz never missed a beat as he earned the United East’s Coach of the Year honors. Krzyzanowicz led his squad to an undefeated conference record while only surrendering one total loss the entire season. The skipper guided his team to its highest ever national ranking (No. 20), helped in part by two wins against top-3 opponents. Krzyzanowicz has focused on keeping the pedal to the medal offensively as his Lions’ 3.73 goals per game ranks fourth in the nation.
