LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East has unveiled its men’s basketball All-Conference Teams and major award winners for the 2021-22 season. All-Conference is broken down into a First and Second Team, each consisting of six players regardless of position. The conference has also named the Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year which are as follows:
Player of the Year - Jordan Shewbridge (Lancaster Bible College)
Rookie of the Year - Ransel Rodriguez (Wells College)
Coach of the Year - Jon Mack (Lancaster Bible College)
One of the most pure scorers in all of Division III, Jordan Shewbridge impressed the conference on his way to Player of the Year honors. The senior averaged 19.8 points per game, leading all players in the conference. Where Shewbridge really found his stroke was from beyond the arc, as his 3-point field goal percentage (42.9%) and 3-point field goals made (79) not only topped the United East, but also ranked 23rd and 15th in the country, respectively. Shewbridge could not be stopped all season, hitting the double-digit point mark in 22 of his 25 games while hitting the 30-point mark three times. Adding to the stat sheet, the New Holland, Pa. native added 58 assists and 86 boards.
Despite being a freshman, Ransel Rodriguez dominated in the Express backcourt leading to Rookie of the Year honors from the United East. The guard was Wells’ primary ball handler, averaging a conference-leading 6.6 assists per game which also ranks as the eighth highest average in the country. Rodriguez also knew how to get to the charity stripe, as his 127 made free throws topped the United East and currently ranks eighth in Division III. While not aiding the offense, Rodriguez demonstrated some stingy defense as his 2.2 steals per game ranked third among conference players.
Coach Jon Mack helped guide his Charger squad to an impressive regular season leading to him earning Coach of the Year honors. Mack led his program to a record of 19-6, going 14-1 in conference play. His win over Penn State Harrisburg in the regular season finale also gave Lancaster Bible its first Regular Season Title since the 2017-18 season. Mack guided an offensive minded team that topped the conference in points per game with an average of 83.4 points. That offense was spearheaded by some quality long range shooting as the Charger’s 3-point shooting percentage of 38.0% was the best in the United East. At the regular season’s conclusion, Mack had coached three players to All-Conference status as well as the Player of the Year.
