LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East has released its Men’s Tennis All-Conference Teams for the 2021-22 season. All-Conference consists of a First and Second Team made up of six singles players and three doubles pairs. The conference has also handed out its major awards including Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year which are as follows:
Player of the Year - Caleb Fockens (Penn State Harrisburg)
Rookie of the Year - Caleb Fockens (Penn State Harrisburg)
Coach of the Year - Greg Shedd (St. Mary's College)
Despite his first year status, Fockens showed that he could handle being on the court with anyone. The Cambridge, Maine native dominated from the first singles spot, posting a record of 11-1 overall. In conference play, Fockens did not give up a set in singles play the entire year, going a perfect 5-0 in match play. He would team up with fellow First Team All-Conference member, Sachin Venkatesh, to go 11-1 from the top doubles flight including 4-0 against conference opponents. He’d nab that fifth doubles win as he paired with Derwin Merca in the season finale against Penn State Berks
Coach Greg Shedd and his Seahawks dominated their first season in the United East, earning him Coach of the Year status. Shedd helped his team to a perfect 5-0 record in conference play, winning three of the five tilts by a 9-0 score. Overall, Shedd’s led Seahawks dropped only three matches on the season, posting a record 12-3.
