Harrisburg Defends Men's Tennis Crown

LANDISVILLE, Pa. - The top-seeded Penn State Harrisburg men’s tennis team won their third men’s tennis title in as many years as they downed No. 2 St. Mary’s College of Maryland, 4-1, Sunday morning at the Hempfield RecCenter.

With the victory, the Lions not only are named the United East Champions but also receive the automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. The selection show for that will be on Monday, May 4 at 12:30 pm.

Harrisburg came out of the gates swinging as they won No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches to clinch the doubles point in convincing fashion. Ved Pawar and Colin Flack won at second doubles by a score of 6-3, and Cooper Wheeler and Damir Cuturic took first doubles, 6-4.

Wheeler, Pawar and Cuturic carried the success into singles play as Wheeler won 6-1, 6-2 in the top spot, Pawar won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 and Cuturic was a 6-4, 6-3 winner on court 3.

Alex Lyman tried being the spark the Seahawks needed by picking up a point at No. 4 singles with a 6-2, 6-1 victory.
