LATHAM, N.Y. - The 2026 United East Men's Tennis Championship First Round is now complete with #3 Penn College and #4 Penn State Berks both advancing the the United East Semifinals.
The Nittany Lions will travel to face #1 Penn State Harrisburg on Wednesday, April 29. The Wildcats will also be in action on April 29 when they take on #2 St. Mary's College of Maryland.
#4 Penn State Berks def. #5 Penn State Abington, 4-3 (BOX SCORE)
The Nittany Lions got off to a good start, winning two of three doubles matches to earn the first team point of the match. Talan Nguyen and Jazae Maina-Itegi teamed to earn a 6-4 victory in the No. 1 doubles match. Donovan Sullivan and Joseph Martin worked together to earn a 6-1 victory in the No. 2 doubles match.
The teams turned their attention to doubles play and Abington battled back into the match winning the No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches to take the lead. Sullivan answered back, winning the No. 3 singles match 6-2, 6-2. Maina-Itegi leveled the match at three, winning the No. 2 singles match, 6-1, 6-1. All attention turned to the No. 1 singles match to determine the match. Nguyen fended off a tough battle by Abington's Daniel Trott to earn a 6-4, 6-3 victory, securing the match of the Nittany Lions.
#3 Penn College vs. #6 Lancaster Bible College, 4-2 (BOX SCORE)
The Wildcats jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after taking all three doubles matchups. Penn College started off with a forfiet victory at No. 3 before Josh Myers and Averk Hawk took the No. 2 slot, 6-2 and Matt Williams and Logan Ogden posted a 6-3 victory at No. 1.
Nas Joy and Dan Marcroft picked up two singles points to pull the Chargers back into the match. Joy earned a 6-2, 6-4 win at the No. 2 position and Marcroft outlasted Valentino Barillaro, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2. A No. 6 forfiet victory for the Wildcats and a 6-0, 6-0 win by Hawk at No. 4 paved the way for Myers to seal the victory with a 6-4, 6-4 win at the No. 1 position.
