Gallaudet's Stephanie Stevens nominated for NCAA Division III LGBTQ Athletics Administrator/Coach/Staff of the Year Award

 Gallaudet University women's basketball coach Stephanie Stevens is one of six nominees for the 2022 NCAA Division III LGBTQ Athletics Administrator/Coach/Staff of the Year Award as announced early this week.

The NCAA Division III LGBTQ Athletics Administrator/Coach/Staff of the Year Award recognizes and honors the service, leadership and promotion of LGBTQ inclusion by an LGBTQ athletics administrator, coach or staff member in Division III.

The award winner, along with the winners of the NCAA LGBTQ Student-Athlete of the Year Award as well as the LGBTQ Athletics Department/Conference of the Year Award, will be notified in October and will be announced and publicly recognized in conjunction with the 2023 NCAA Convention in San Antonio on Friday, January 13.

Stevens, a member of the LGBTQ+ community, enters her 10th year as head coach at Gallaudet with a 109-124 career record and 87-71 record in United East play. Stevens also serves as the department's Health and Wellness liaison. 

Stevens led the Bison to a 16-9 overall record last season as GU won the United East Conference regular season with a 13-3 conference mark. The Bison hosted the United East Conference tournament and were runner-up as Gallaudet reached the championship game. Stevens earned her second conference Coach of the Year award as GU placed two players on the first team and sophomore forward Cassidy Perry (Frederick, Md.) took home United East Conference Player of the Year honors. Senior guard Emelia Beldon (Frederick, Md.) was recently named the United East nominee for the 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year award.
