General 10/3/2023 10:00:00 AM United East Athletes of the Week -October 3 2023 LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East conference has announced its Athletes of the Week for October 3, 2023. Today will include Athletes of the Week for Field Hockey, Men’s Cross Country, Women’s Cross Country, Men’s Golf, Women’s Tennis, and Men’s Tennis. This week’s selections included contests from Monday, September 18 through Sunday, September 24. A total of 7 student-athletes were recognized for their performances. Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week Miranda Mascia / Sr / Keystone College / Blakeslee, Pa.. / Pocono Mountain West Mascia scored two goals to lead Keystone to a 2-0 win over Wilson College in the team's conference opener on Saturday. This is Keystone’s first win over Wilson since 2019 and Wilson’s first conference loss since 2019 as well. Mascia leads the United East with 5 assists, is second in the United East with 13 points and a 1.63 points per game average, and in 3rd place with 4 goals on the season. Mascia was previously Player of the Week for the week of September 5, 2023. Defensive Player of the Week Kadee Schrader / FY / Cedar Crest College / Northampton, Pa. / Northampton Area HS Schrader picked up a win in goal for the Falcons in a shootout against Immaculata while making four saves, including a number of key stops in the shootout. She also picked up nine saves in 40 minutes of action against Hood; a 2-1 loss in OT. Schrader currently leads the United East in Saves (79), Save Percentage (.782), and Saves per Game (7.90). Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week Kathe Wilken-Yoder / So / Gallaudet University / Oviedo, Fl. / Hagerty HS Wilken-Yoder shattered the Gallaudet University women's cross country 6K record last Saturday at the Don Cathcart Invitational hosted by Salisbury University. Wilken-Yoder completed the 6K course with a time of 24:05.80 seconds to finish ninth overall and shattered the old school mark of 24:51 held by Lindsey Corthell dating back to Nov. 1, 2014. Wilken-Yoder and the Bison finished 12th overall as a team at the meet. Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week Michael Wade / Jr / St. Mary’s College of Maryland / Woodstock, Md. / Marriott Ridge HS Michael Wade placed 12th out of 111 runners at the Don Cathcart Invitational hosted by Salisbury University, leading St. Mary's to a seventh-place finish in the 12-team field. Wade posted a personal record of 26:28.4 on the 8K course, besting his previous PR of 27:23.5 from his first year in 2021. This is the 3rd Runner of the Week honor for Wade who previously won the award on the week(s) of: September 14, 2021 and October 5, 2021. Wade is a two-time First Team All-United East honoree after finishing second at the conference championships in 2022 and fourth in 2021. Men’s Golf Player of the Week Peyton Mussina / Jr / Pennsylvania College of Technology / Montoursville, Pa. / Montoursville HS Peyton Mussina signed for 71-72-143 to finish second at the D3 Northeast Elite, hosted by Penn College and Williamsport Country Club, on Saturday and Sunday. Mussina, who has won one tournament and finished runner-up three times this season, helped lead the Wildcats to a third-place finish in a team race that featured six reigning conference champions. Men’s Tennis Player of the Week Muhammad Esmat / FY / Penn State Berks / Chapel Hill, NC / Ecole Oasis Internationale Muhammad Esmat remained unbeaten this season with a pair of wins against Albright College this past week. The first-year teamed up with Jazae Maina-Itegi for an 8-4 victory at No.1 doubles. Esmat then earned a 6-0, 6-2 win at the top singles spot. Women’s Tennis Player of the Week - Volt Division Allison Wootton / FY / Penn State Harrisburg / Portage, Mi. / Portage Northern HS Allison Wootton's strong start to her collegiate career continued in a pair of matches last week. Wootton's 6-1, 6-2 victory in the No. 1 singles match accounted for Penn State Harrisburg's lone win in a setback against Lebanon Valley on Tuesday afternoon. The first-year followed it up by teaming with Breanna DeSantis for an 8-0 sweep in the top doubles outing against Misericordia before finishing things off with a 6-1, 7-5 win in the No. 1 solo matchup on Saturday afternoon.
