United East Athletes of the Week - November 13, 2023

LATHAM, N.Y. -  The United East conference has announced its Athletes of the Week for November 13, 2023.  This includes Athletes of the Week for both the Skye and Volt Divisions in Men’s and Women’s Basketball.

This week’s selections included contests from Wednesday, November 8 through Sunday, November 12.  A total of 8 student-athletes were recognized for their performances. 

 

Men’s Basketball

Offensive Player of the Week - Skye Division
Darryl Garib / Sr / Wilson College / Dallas, Tx. / Forest Park HS

Garib shot 50% from the field and averaged 25.0 points per game in back-to-back games as Wilson split the opening weekend. The senior forward led the Phoenix to a season-opening neutral site victory against Delaware Valley with 23 points and six rebounds before he poured in 27 more in Saturday's tilt at Hood.  Garib was a 2022-23 First Team All-Conference honoree as well as Player of the Week five times in his career; January 30, 2023, January 23, 2023, December 12, 2022, February 7, 2022, and January 24, 2022.

Defensive Player of the Week - Skye Division
Jalen Jackson / Jr / Bryn Athyn College / Brick, N.J. / Brick Township HS / Western Connecticut State

In his first game for Bryn Athyn, the junior guard was the quarterback of the defense for the Lions and sparked a 21-4 run to start the second half which led to an 82-68 win over Rutgers-Camden. Jackson swiped 3 steals and grabbed 6 rebounds to go along with his 8 assists and 13 points.

Offensive Player of the Week - Volt Division
Grant Sareyka / Sr / Lancaster Bible College / Swedesboro, N.J. / The Christian Academy

Sareyka had a 46 point night in the Chargers opening win versus Allegheny 118-110 in Overtime on Friday on 68 percent shooting (15-22). 40 of those points were scored in the second half as Sareyka dealt with foul trouble in the first half. Sareyka is averaging 34 points per game, three rebounds per game, and two steals per game while shooting 56 percent from the field and 53 percent from beyond the arc. The Chargers are 1-1 on the year after falling to Clarkson 93-91 in double overtime of the Hawks vs. Hunger Tournament at Hilbert.

Defensive Player of the Week - Volt Division
Donyae Baylor-Carrol / Sr / Penn State Harrisburg / Harrisburg, Pa. / Milton Hershey

Donyae Baylor-Carroll led Penn State Harrisburg to three victories to start the 2023-24 campaign. After a 20-month hiatus, the senior guard returned to action by netting a game-high 19 points to go along with game-best marks of seven assists and seven steals in a season-opening win over Kean on Wednesday night. The Harrisburg, Pa. native then led the Lions to victories over a pair of NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago in a sweep of the Penn State Harrisburg Tip-Off Classic over the weekend. He tallied a dozen points, six assists, and five steals in a victory over Marymount (Va.) on Saturday night before pouring in a game-high 27 points to go along with a game-best seven assists and seven steals while also helping hold preseason all-American Daniel Cook to just 10 points in a win over St. John Fisher on Sunday afternoon. For the week, Baylor-Carroll averaged 19.3 points, 6.7 assists, and six steals per contest.
 


Women’s Basketball

Offensive Player of the Week - Skye Division
Destiny Battle / Jr / Saint Elizabeth University / East Orange, N.J. / East Orange HS

Destiny Battle started off the 2023-24 season by leading the Eagles to a 2-0 record on opening weekend; a 71-69 victory over FDU-Florham and a 70-67 win over Lehman.  Battle totaled 50 points over the first 2 games of the season while averaging 6 assists per game and 7 rebounds per game.  Battle was the 2022-23 CSAC Defensive Player of the Year as well as the 2022-22 CSAC Rookie of the Year.  This is the 3rd time Battle has been awarded Player of the Week (February 14, 2022, December 19, 2022).

Defensive Player of the Week - Skye Division
Aryanna Baytops / Sr / Saint Elizabeth University / Newark, N.J. / Newark Tech

Baytops started the 2023-24 season strong by leading the Eagles to a 2-0 record on opening weekend; a 71-69 victory over FDU-Florham and a 70-67 win over Lehman.  Baytops collected 40 rebounds on the week in just 2 games played, averaging 20 rebounds per game while scoring 20 points this week bringing her weekly averages to 20 rebounds per game & 10 points per game.

Offensive Player of the Week - Volt Division
Raven Hunter / So / Lancaster Bible College / West Palm Beach, Fl. / American Heritage School

Raven Hunter filled the stat sheet in her first three games as a Charger averaging 17.7 points per game, 6.7 rebounds per game, 3 assists per game, 2.6 steals per game, and 2 blocks per game. Hunter scored 24 points in the Chargers first win of the season at Valley Forge on Wednesday.

Defensive Player of the Week - Volt Division
Tramarie Mobray / So / St. Mary’s College of Maryland / Glen Burnie, Md. / Glen Burnie HS

Tramarie Mobray helped the Seahawks to a 2-1 start to the new season as the Seahawks finished runners-up in the Jamie L. Roberts Memorial Tournament. Mobray began the season with career-bests of 22 points and eight rebounds plus a season-best four steals in a 72-67 home- and season-opening win over Hood. In the 60-48 win over Penn State Lehigh Valley, she picked up four more steals while adding five points and four boards. Mobray finished the weekend with a career-best four assists plus four more steals to go along with eight points and eight rebounds in the 63-50 tournament championship game loss to Saint Joseph. Ten of her 18 rebounds were defensive. Her three-game average for the week were 11.7 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.0 steals, and 2.7 assists.
