LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Keystone College field hockey team's 2023 season came to an end in the first round of the NCAA Tournament as they were defeated by No. 11 University of Lynchburg 6-1 Wednesday afternoon.
Keystone ends the season at 11-6. Lynchburg improves to 20-2 and will face the winner of York College and Denison on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 1 p.m.
Belen Rodriguez (Caballito, Buenos Aires, Argentina/Colegio Santa Brígida) scored the only goal for Keystone in the second quarter. Her goal would be the first goal ever score by a Keystone field hockey player in the NCAA Tournament. Hannah Osbhar and Casey Stratton (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) both appeared in cage as they combined for 12 saves.
For Lynchburg, Aaron Boatwright recorded two goals in the first-round tournament matchup. Khanyisile Mzizi, Renee Van Thiel, Marlou Wendriks, and Saar Prins scored once. Mzizi, Wendriks, Shaffer, and van Metre had one assist.
The Hornets commanded the total of shots in the contest as they posted a 25-9 margin on shots. In addition, they held a slim 3-2 advantage on penalty corners.
