General 12/11/2023 2:30:00 PM United East Athletes of the Week - December 11, 2023 LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East conference has announced its Athletes of the Week for December 11, 2023. This includes Athletes of the Week for both the Skye and Volt Divisions in Men’s and Women’s Basketball. This week’s selections included contests from Monday, December 4 through Sunday, December 10. A total of 8 student-athletes were recognized for their performances. Men’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week - Skye Division Jack Anderson / Jr / Keystone College / Davie, Fl. / Western HS Anderson averaged 27.5 PPG and 3.5 RPG in a 2-0 week for Keystone with both wins coming in conference play. Anderson was the leading scorer in both contests as he provided 28 points with four rebounds and was 9-of-16 from the field in the team's 86-74 win over Valley Forge. He followed that up with 27 points and three rebounds in the Giant's 81-74 triumph against Clarks Summit. Anderson was 7-of-12 from the field and 5-of-7 from behind the three-point line. This is the fourth Athlete of the Week honor for Anderson, who was the CSAC Player of the Year in 2022-23 and the CSAC Rookie of the Year in 2021-22. Defensive Player of the Week - Skye Division Jalen Parker / Jr / Bryn Athyn College / Baltimore, Md. / Admiral Farragut / Missouri Southern State University Parker was in front defensively this week leading the Lions to a 3-0 week and 2-0 in Skye Division play. Parker broke the program's single game block record on Monday against Gallaudet with 7 blocks in a game. The junior forward averaged 9.3 rebounds, 3.3 blocks, and 1.3 steals. He also added 13.3 points on the week. His best performance came against Gallaudet when the big man poured in 15 points, grabbed 10 boards, blocked 7 shots, and swiped 2 steals. This is the second Athlete of the Week honor for Parker, who previously won for the week of November 20, 2023. Offensive Player of the Week - Volt Division Donyae Baylor-Carroll / Sr / Penn State Harrisburg / Harrisburg, Pa. / Milton Hershey Donyae Baylor-Carroll reached a pair of major milestones in leading Penn State Harrisburg to a couple of non-conference victories last week. The senior shot 55.6 percent from beyond the arc (5-of-9) en route to netting a game-high 26 points to go along with five rebounds and five assists in a road win at CCNY on Monday night. In a road victory at Neumann two nights later, the NCAA Division III active 3-point field goal leader hit five more triples on 45.5 percent shooting from distance to become the first active player to reach the 300 mark for his career. The guard netted a game-high 25 points in the process and helped hold 2023 NABC All-American Jalen Vaughns to just 11 points in the win. In a setback at Bridgewater (Va.) on Saturday afternoon, Baylor-Carroll became the third-fastest active player in Division III to surpass the 1,600-point mark for his career thanks to scoring a team-high 15 points and grabbing four more boards. For the week, he averaged 22 points, four rebounds, and three assists per game. This is the third Athlete of the Week honor for Baylor-Carroll this season (November 27, 2023 and November 13, 2023). Defensive Player of the Week - Volt Division Daryn Alexander / Sr / St. Mary’s College of Maryland / Twinbrook, Md. / Richmond Montgomery HS / Salisbury University Daryn Alexander chipped in 11 points, six rebounds (all defensive), a season-high five steals, and four assists in the Seahawks' 72-52 win over Cabrini. Early in the 2023-24 season, Alexander is Top 25 in the United East for Points per Game, Rebounds, Rebounds per Game and is 4th in Steals per Game. This is the third Player of the Week honor for Alexander (February 20, 2023 and January 31, 2022) who was named to the All-United East Second Team for the 2021-22 and 2022-23 season. Women’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week - Skye Division Amani Watts / FY / Notre Dame of Maryland University / Severn, Md. / Old Mill HS Watts helped the Gators go 3-0 with wins over Wilson College, St. Mary's College of Maryland, and the University of Valley Forge. Watts opened the week with a double-double against Wilson College, recording 16 points and 12 rebounds (3 offensive rebounds). She followed that up with 16 points and nine rebounds (3 offensive rebounds) in NDMU's win over St. Mary's (MD). Watts closed the week by scoring 25 points in only 24 minutes of action in the win over Valley Forge. In that outing, Watts was 11-11 from the field and added 11 rebounds (6 offensive). She currently is averaging 18.1 PPG (4th in the United East) and 12.4 RPG (2nd in the United East; 17th in NCAA Division III). This is the second consecutive Athlete of the Week honor for Watts. Defensive Player of the Week - Skye Division Destiny Battle / Jr / Saint Elizabeth University / East Orange, N.J. / East Orange HS Battle totaled 23 steals during the Eagles’ 3-0 week including a double double of 19 points and 10 steals in the win against Trinity Washington. Against Cedar Crest, Battle had 9 steals and 5 assists to go with 16 points. Later in the week against Bryn Athyn, Battle had 20 points, 5 steals, and 4 assists. Battle was the 2022-23 CSAC Defensive Player of the Year as well as the 2022-22 CSAC Rookie of the Year. This is the 5th time Battle has been awarded Player of the Week (November 20, 2023, November 13, 2023, February 14, 2022, December 19, 2022). Offensive Player of the Week - Volt Division Angela Sanders / Sr / Penn State Abington / Philadelphia, Pa. / Mastery Charter North Pickett Sanders became the program's fifth player to reach the 1,000 career point milestone this past week as she averaged 22.0 points and 10.3 rebound per game in a 1-2 week for the Nittany Lions. Sanders reached 1,000 career points after scoring 24 at Brooklyn College. She added nine boards, four assists and two steals. She followed that up with 14 points and 14 rebounds in the one-sided victory at York College (N.Y.) before capping the week with 26 points; one shy of her season-high. Sanders also had eight rebounds and three steals against the Cardinals. She averaged 6.0 assists and 2.6 steals per game. This is the third Athlete of the Week honor for Sanders, who previously won for the weeks of February 13, 2023 and January 11, 2022. Defensive Player of the Week - Volt Division Melanie Aguilar / So / St. Mary’s College of Maryland / Riverdale, Md. / Parkdale HS Melanie Aguilar notched 12 points, five rebounds (four defensive), four assists, three steals, and one block in a 1-1 week for St. Mary's. In the come-from-behind 63-49 win over Virginia Wesleyan, Aguilar tallied eight points, four boards (three defensive), and two steals. This is the first Athlete of the Week honor for Aguilar who is currently 14th in the United East for Blocked Shots and 15th for Assists.
