VILLANOVA, Pa. – The Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) is proud to announce Cedar Crest College as the recipient of the 2022-23 CSAC Institutional Academic Excellence Award. Cedar Crest earned the honor for the 2022-23 academic year with a grade point average of 3.437. The CSAC Institutional Academic Award is given annually to the institution whose student-athletes, while competing in CSAC-sponsored sports, achieve the highest grade point average for that academic year.
This is the sixth time in school history, and fourth straight academic year, that Cedar Crest has won the award. The Falcons previously won the award in 2008-09, 2009-10, 2018-19, 2020-21, and 2021-22.
Nine of the 10 CSAC schools recorded a GPA of 3.00 or higher during the 2022-23 academic year, including two schools that achieved a 3.20 or higher. The nine schools with a GPA above 3.00 is the highest number achieving that honor since the 2016-17 school year.
“I am so proud of our Falcons, who put their heart and soul into everything they do., “said Dr. Elizabeth Meade, President of Cedar Crest College. “Their success on the court, in the pool and on the track is continually matched by their success in the classroom, in labs, and in clinicals. I am equally proud of our coaches and our faculty who work together to support our student-athletes in their pursuit of excellence.”
For the 2022-23 academic year, 76 Cedar Crest athletes were named to the CSAC All-Academic Team, achieved by earning a grade point average of 3.20 or higher during the current academic year. There were 32 on the Fall CSAC Fall All-Academic Team and 44 on the CSAC Winter/Spring All-Academic Team.
Cedar Crest College Director of Athletics, Christy Fleagle says, "We are extraordinarily proud of our student athletes, who have continued to excel in academics along with their drive for their respective sports. We have coaches who support our athletes on their college journey. Our student athletes have demonstrated their commitment to the classroom, and this honor is a reflection of their priorities."
"Congratulations to the Falcons of Cedar Crest for achieving such high academic success yet again! These student-athletes are students first, as evidenced by the hard work they put in not just in-season, but throughout the entire academic year," said CSAC Commissioner, Marie Stroman.
