General 9/12/2023 10:00:00 AM United East Athletes of the Week - September 12, 2023 LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East conference has announced its Athletes of the Week for September 12, 2023. Today will include Athletes of the Week for Field Hockey, Men’s Cross Country and Women’s Cross Country. This week’s selections included contests from Monday, September 5 through Sunday, September 10. A total of 4 student-athletes were recognized for their performances. Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week Paige Ney / So / Wilson College / Biglerville, Pa. / Biglerville HS Ney led the offense as Wilson went 2-1 on the week. She scored a goal in a 4-2 win against Washington & Jefferson in the opening game of the Wilson Invitational on Saturday and followed up with two more goals in a 3-1 win against Allegheny in the championship game on Sunday. She was named to the all-tournament team for her efforts. This is the second Athlete of the Week for Ney who previously won the award on September 12, 2022 as well as a Second Team honor for the 2022 season as well. Defensive Player of the Week Allyson Shindler / Gr / Wilson College / Manchester, Pa. / Northeastern HS Shindler helped the Phoenix go 2-1 on the week and made a combined 13 saves. Five savers against Washington & Jefferson in a 4-2 victory of the first game of the Wilson Invitational. Four more followed as she played 55 minutes of shutout action in a win against Allegheny in the championship. She was named to the all-tournament team as a result. This is the fourth Athlete of the Week award for Shindler who was previously honored on the week of September 5, 2022, October 24, 2022, and October 10, 2022. Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week AyliGrace Munro / So / Cairn University / Bar Harbor, Me. / Mount Desert Island HS Munro was the first Highlander to cross the finish line in 21st place overall with a time of 19:48.3 competing in the Dutchmen Invitational at Lebanon Valley College. Munro finished 2022 a First Team All-CSAC performer after finishing in 2nd place in the Championship meet. This is the fourth Athlete of the Week award for Munro who was previously honored on the week of September 12, 2022, September 26, 2022, and October 10, 2022. Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week Michael Wade / Jr / St. Mary’s College of Maryland / Woodstock, Md. / Marriotts Ridge HS Wade crossed the finish line first for the Seahawks, finishing the 4.9-mile U.S. Naval Academy Cross Country Course in 29:07.34 for 67th place out of 89 runners that finished the race. Wade’s finish was the 4th fastest time of Division III participants in a race with a majority of Division I and Division II athletes. Wade is a two-time United East First Team cross country honoree after placing fourth in 2021 and second in 2022.
