General 9/19/2023 10:00:00 AM United East Athletes of the Week - September 19, 2023 LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East conference has announced its Athletes of the Week for September 19, 2023. Today will include Athletes of the Week for Field Hockey, Men’s Cross Country, Women’s Cross Country, and Men’s Golf. This week’s selections included contests from Monday, September 11 through Sunday, September 17. A total of 5 student-athletes were recognized for their performances. Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week Kate Seymour / FY / Wilson College / Churchton, Md. / Southern HS Seymour helped the Phoenix extend their win streak to four games with a seven-point effort in a pair of contests over the weekend. She opened with a goal and an assist in a victory at Ferrum before scoring a pair of goals in another 3-1 result over Eastern Mennonite in back-to-back days. She has now recorded at least three points in the last three games with game winning goals in the past two. Defensive Player of the Week Allyson Shindler / Gr / Wilson College / Manchester, Pa. / Northeastern HS Shindler helped Wilson extend its win streak to four games with a pair of 3-1 wins against Ferrum and Eastern Mennonite over the weekend. She came up with five saves combined between both games in the process while playing all 120 minutes. This is the fifth Athlete of the Week award for Shindler who was previously honored on the week of September 5, 2022, October 24, 2022, October 10, 2022, and September 11, 2023. Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week AyliGrace Munro / So / Cairn University / Bar Harbor, Me. / Mount Desert Island HS AyliGrace Munro placed 1st overall in the Women's 6K race at the United East Preview Meet hosted by Cairn University, leading her team to a 2nd place team finish. Munro finished 2022 a First Team All-CSAC performer after finishing in 2nd place in the Championship meet. This is the fifth Athlete of the Week award for Munro who was previously honored on the week of September 12, 2022, September 26, 2022, October 10, 2022, and September 11, 2023. Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week Mitchell Gray / Sr. / Lancaster Bible College / Schaefferstown, Pa. / ELCO Gray had an impressive weekend in the United East Preview hosted by Cairn University. Gray led all 83 runners with a time of 27:42.5, a whole minute before the next runner. Gray was the 2022 United East champion en route to his Runner of the Year and NCAA Division III All-Region awards last season. This is the fifth Runner of the Week honor for Gray who previously won on September 6, 2022, October 4, 2022, October 25, 2022, and September 5, 2023. Men’s Golf Athlete of the Week Peyton Mussina / Jr / Pennsylvania College of Technology / Montoursville, Pa. / Montoursville HS In two tournaments last week, Mussina finished second to start the week and took home medalist honors to end the week. He fired a career-best 2-under 69 to tie for second, in a field of 68 players, at the Elizabethtown College Fall Invitational on Tuesday at Hershey Country Club. He capped off the week with a two-day total of 1-over (143) to top the field of 82 players at the Mountain Valley Collegiate Classic on Saturday and Sunday. This is the third Athlete of the Week honor for Mussina (October 4, 2022 and October 25, 2022) who finished the 2022-23 season as a First Team All-United East honoree after a second-place finish at the league championship meet in April.
