United East Athletes of the Week - September 25, 2023

LATHAM, N.Y. -  The United East conference has announced its Athletes of the Week for September 25, 2023.  This includes Athletes of the Week for both the Skye and Volt Divisions in Men’s Soccer, Women’s Soccer, and Women’s Volleyball. 
This week’s selections included contests from Monday, September 18 through Sunday, September 24.  A total of 12 student-athletes were recognized for their performances.

 

Men’s Soccer

Offensive Player of the Week - Skye Division
Sebastian Londono / FY / Saint Elizabeth University / Hackensack, NJ / Bergen Catholic HS
Londono scored a hat trick in the conference opener versus the University of Valley Forge. Londono’s three goals on the week bring him to a total of 12 on the season; good for the lead in the United East as well as tied for 2nd overall in NCAA Division III. 
 
Defensive Player of the Week - Skye Division
Gunner Hoffman / Jr / Rosemont College / Elmer, NJ / Rowan College of SJ / Williamstown HS
Hoffman had 5 saves and 0 goals allowed in the only game of the week for Rosemont; a 5-0 win over Arcadia University on Wednesday evening.  Hoffman is currently third in the United East with 41 total saves over 7 matches played while only allowing 10 goals against.  Hoffman ranks 2nd in the United East with 3 shutouts in those 7 matches played.
 
Offensive Player of the Week - Volt Division
Tommy DeGeyter / Jr / Pennsylvania College of Technology / Long Valley, NJ / West Morris Central
DeGeyter helped Penn College to a 3-0 week. The junior center back scored three goals in a 3-0 win over Clarks Summit in just 36 minutes of action and drew a penalty kick in 1-0 victory over Penn State Berks. Defensively, he helped anchor a back line that allowed only four shots on goal in three matches while posting three consecutive shutout wins. DeGeyter was a Second Team All-Conference in 2022.
 
Defensive Player of the Week - Volt Division
Cole Catherman / Jr / Pennsylvania College of Technology / Selinsgrove, Pa. / Selinsgrove HS
Catherman went 3-0 in goal last week with three shutouts for the Wildcats. He turned away four shots over the course of three games.  This is the 2nd Player of the Week award for Catherman as he was United East Defensive Player of the Week for the week of September 26, 2022.

 

Women’s Soccer

Offensive Player of the Week - Skye Division
Halley Shaffer / So / Wilson College / Sunbury, PA / Line Mountain HS
Shaffer turned in another hat trick as she helped Wilson extend its win streak to six games with a pair of victories over the past week. The three goals came in a 4-0 home win against Mount Aloysius, a team that the Phoenix had been scoreless against in five prior meetings. It was Shaffer's second hat trick of the season. She now has 11 goals on the year which is tied for seventh in NCAA Division III.
 
Defensive Player of the Week - Skye Division
Rebecca Marakovitz / Jr. / Wilson College / New Market, Md. / Linganore HS
Marakovitz helped Wilson record two more clean sheets on the week with Marakovitz earning one of them outright and playing over two-thirds of the second. The Phoenix haven't yielded a goal in the last 438 minutes of game time. Three saves came in a 5-0 win at Penn State-Schuylkill with two more coming against Mount Aloysius on a 4-0 triumph before being relieved in the 68th minute with the game in hand. Marakovitz earned a Second Team All-CSAC nod in 2022 as well as Defensive Player of the Week for the week of October 17, 2022, September 11, 2023, and September 18, 2023.
 
Offensive Player of the Week - Volt Division
Kendal Ream / Sr / Lancaster Bible College / Willow Street, Pa. / Lampeter-Strasburg
Ream tallied two goals and one assist in a 4-0 win in the United East opener at Penn State Abington on Saturday.   Ream leads the Chargers with 10 goals and one assist ranking in the top three of the conference for goals and points as well as 12th in NCAA Division III for Goals. Ream was the United East Offensive Player of the Week for September 4, 2023 and October 11, 2021 as well as a 2021 All-Conference First Team honoree.

Defensive Player of the Week - Volt Division
Nicole Lichtinger / Jr / Pennsylvania College of Technology / Erie, Pa. / McDowell HS
Lichtinger went 1-0-1 last week for Penn College. Lichtinger turned away two shots in a 4-1 win over Penn State-Altoona and stopped 11 shots in a 0-0 draw against Penn State Berks. Lichtinger currently sits tied atop the United East rankings with 3 shutouts as well as the leader of the United East with 39 total Saves.
 

 
Women’s Volleyball

Offensive Player of the Week - Skye Division
Taylor Hallam / FY / Keystone College / Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin East HS
Hallam combined for 18 kills and 14 service aces in a 2-1 week for the Giants. Hallam tied a school record with 9 service aces in Keystone's win over Mount St. Mary on Saturday. Additionally, Hallam swung for a .533 attack percentage (8K-0E-15TA) with 5 service aces in the Giants’ 3-0 victory over Bryn Mawr on Thursday evening.
 
Defensive Player of the Week - Skye Division
Paulina Hernandez / Sr / Notre Dame of Maryland University / El Paso, Tx. / Perry Hall HS
Hernandez recorded 51 digs in her two matches this week; a 3-1 defeat to Volt Division rival Gallaudet and a 3-2 defeat to Division II Bowie St. Hernandez currently ranks 14th in NCAA Division III with 5.72 digs per set. This is the sixth Defensive Player of the Week for Hernandez who previously earned the honor for the weeks of September 27, 2021, September 6, 2022, and September 19, 2022, September 11, 2023, and September 18, 2023. Hernandez earned a spot on the CSAC Second Team in 2022 as well.
 
Offensive Player of the Week - Volt Division
Citrine Lummer / So / Gallaudet University / Frederick, Md. / Maryland School for the Deaf
Lummer compiled 65 kills on 175 swings with only 19 errors for an attack percentage of .263 in five matches as the Bisons completed a 4-1 record on the week.  Lummer added 50 digs, 12 service aces and six blocks in the 19 sets played. Last Saturday, Lummer posted back-to-back 17-kill matches against DeSales and Marymount (Va.). Earlier in the week, Lummer had 15 kills in a 3-1 home-opening win over Notre Dame of Maryland University. Lummer leads the United East in kills (191) and kills per set (3.03) in 18 matches. Lummer was a Second Team All-United East in 2022.
 
Defensive Player of the Week - Volt Division
Leah Helman / Jr / Lancaster Bible College / Waynesboro, Pa. / Waynesboro HS
Helman tallied 45 total digs this week helping the Chargers go 2-2 including wins over Clarks Summit and Hood. Helman also contributed six service aces helping her surpass 100 career aces and added two kills of her own.  Helman is currently 4th in the United East with 181 Total Digs and a 4.41 Digs/Set average.  This is the 2nd Player of the Week for Helman, who previously received the award for the week of October 3, 2022.
