United East Athletes of the Week - September 5, 2023

LATHAM, N.Y. - Week 1 brings the first United East weekly honor roll of the newly integrated 17-team conference.  Today will include Athletes of the Week for Field Hockey, Men’s Cross Country and Women’s Cross Country.

This week’s selections included contests from Friday, September 1 through Sunday, September 3.  A total of 4 student-athletes were recognized for their performances.

 
Field Hockey
Offensive Player of the Week
Miranda Mascia / Sr / Keystone College / Blakeslee, Pa.. / Pocono Mountain West
Mascia scored two goals and added one assist in the Giants 5-0 win over King’s College on Sunday.

Defensive Player of the Week
Allyson Shindler / Gr / Wilson College / Manchester, Pa. / Northeastern HS
Shindler picked up where she left off last season and recorded her eighth career shutout - also her fourth-straight in the regular season - in a 2-0 season-opening victory at Sweet Briar on Saturday afternoon. The Vixens took 14 shots on the day with six of them being on goal, all of which were stopped by Shindler. Schindler earned First Team goalkeeper honors in the 2022 season.
 

Women’s Cross Country
Runner of the Week
Brittney Douglas / Sr / St. Mary’s College of Maryland / Port Republic, Md. / Calvert
Douglas was the first Seahawk to cross the finish line at the Richmond Spider Alumni Open, taking 93rd and posting a PR of 16:19.2 on the 4K course.  Douglas finished eighth at the 2022 United East championships and earned All-United East Second Team honors.
 

Men’s Cross Country
Runner of the Week
Mitchell Gray / Sr / Lancaster Bible College / Schaefferstown, Pa.. / ELCO
Gray ran a personal best in the 5k, 16:14.6, at the Goucher Twilight Meet finishing 21 out of 93 competitors. Gray was the 2022 United East champion en route to his Runner of the Year and NCAA Division III All-Region awards last season.
