United East Athletes of the Week - January 16, 2024

LATHAM, N.Y. -  The United East conference has announced its Athletes of the Week for January 16, 2024.  This includes Athletes of the Week for both Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field.

This week’s selections included contests from Monday, January 8 through Sunday, January 14.  A total of 4 student-athletes were recognized for their performances. 

 

Men’s Indoor Track & Field

Track Athlete of the Week
Eric Gregory / Sr / Gallaudet University / Metairie, La. / East Jefferson HS

Gallaudet University senior sprinter Eric Gregory (Metairie, La.) wrote his name in NCAA Division III Men's Indoor Track and Field history on Sunday, January 7 when he set the new national record in the 300-meter dash with a time of 33.27 seconds. Gregory won the 300-meter dash event at the Virginia Commonwealth University Indoor Invitational held at the Virginia Beach Sports Center. The 300-meter dash time of 33.27 is also a Gallaudet school record. Gregory wasn't done at Sunday's meet as he placed 10th in the preliminaries of the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.01 seconds, however he did not qualify for the final.  This is the 6th Athlete of the Week honor for Gregory who is a two-time NCAA Division III National Champion (400m; 2022 & 2023; outdoors) as well as a four-time All-American.

Field Athlete of the Week
Zack Kralec / So / St. Mary’s College of Maryland / Monkton, Md. / Hereford HS

Zack Kralec finished fifth in the pole vault at the Spartan Invitational hosted by St. Thomas Aquinas College as he posted a height of 4.02m. He also ran a personal-best time of 8.03 in the 60m dash.
 


Women’s Indoor Track & Field

Track Athlete of the Week
Avery Arizzi / FY / St. Mary’s College of Maryland / Arnold, Md. / Broadneck HS

Avery Arizzi had a hand in three school records at the Spartan Invitational hosted by St. Thomas Aquinas College. Arizzi clocked a school record and personal-best time of 27.92 (ranks 31st in Mid-Atlantic Region, 6th in UEC/AMCC) in the 200m to finish 25th. She also posted a school record and personal-best time of 1:04.52 (ranks 17th in Mid-Atlantic Region, tops in UEC/AMCC) in the 400m for 28th place. Arizzi led off the record-setting 4x400m relay, which finished 11th with a school record time of 4:29.94 (14th in Mid-Atlantic Region, 3rd in UEC/AMCC).

Field Athlete of the Week - Skye Division
Jillian Zukley / FY / St. Mary’s College of Maryland / Severna Park, Md. / Severna Park HS

Jillian Zukley placed ninth in the shot put at the Spartan Invitational hosted by St. Thomas Aquinas College as Zukley tallied a distance of 11.12m. She also finished 24th in the weight throw with a distance of 11.16m.  Zukley was the highest-finishing Division III participant in the shot put as the meet was full of Division I and Division II programs.  Zukley’s two marks were just off of her earlier school records set in December.
