United East Athletes of the Week - January 23, 2024

LATHAM, N.Y. -  The United East conference has announced its Athletes of the Week for January 23, 2024.  This includes Athletes of the Week for both Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field.

This week’s selections included contests from Monday, January 15 through Sunday, January 21.  A total of 4 student-athletes were recognized for their performances. 

 


Men’s Indoor Track & Field

Track Athlete of the Week
Eric Gregory / Sr / Gallaudet University / Metairie, La. / East Jefferson HS

Gallaudet senior sprinter Eric Gregory (Metairie, La.) won the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.94 seconds, which is a hundredth of a second off his school record time of 6.93, last Saturday at the Robert Comstock Cardinal Classic at the Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex. Gregory was also a member of the first-place 4x400 meter relay team that won the event with a new meet time record of 3:28.75. The Bison four were less than a second off the school record of 3:27.58.  This is the 7th Athlete of the Week honor for Gregory who is a two-time NCAA Division III National Champion (400m; 2022 & 2023; outdoors) as well as a four-time All-American.

Field Athlete of the Week
Zack Kralec / So / St. Mary’s College of Maryland / Monkton, Md. / Hereford HS

Zack Kralec finished second at the Alvernia Winter Invite with a school record and personal-best height of 4.20m.  That new height places Kralec 7th in Mid-Atlantic Region and 2nd in UEC/AMCC for season-best indoor performances.  This the second straight Athlete of the Week honor for Kralec.
 


Women’s Indoor Track & Field

Track Athlete of the Week
Oceana Brown / FY / Gallaudet University / Miami, Fl. / Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind

Gallaudet first-year sprinter Oceana Brown (Miami, Fla.) finished fifth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.11 seconds and claimed 15th in the 200-meter dash (27.52).at the Robert Comstock Cardinal Classic at the Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex.  This is the first Athlete of the Week honor for Brown.

Field Athlete of the Week - Skye Division
Steph Reider / Sr / Penn State Harrisburg / Maytown, Pa. / Donegal HS

Reider turned in a record-breaking performance at the Alvernia Winter Invite on Saturday afternoon. In just the third meet of her career, the senior broke the program record in the weight throw with a top toss of 13.89 meters, earning a runner-up finish in the event in the process. Her effort also currently ranks as the top mark among all United East throwers in the event. Reider also earned a sixth-place finish in the shot put with a top effort of 9.79 meters.  A standout on the softball field with a Rookie of the Year and First Team All-Conference to her name, this is the first Athlete of the Week for Reider within track and field.
