General 10/1/2024 10:00:00 AM United East Athletes of the Week - October 1, 2024 LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East conference has announced its Athletes of the Week for October 1, 2024. Today will include Athletes of the Week for Men’s and Women’s Cross Country, Men’s and Women’s Tennis, and Men’s Golf. This week’s selections included contests from Monday, September 23 through Sunday, September 29. A total of 5 student-athletes were recognized for their performances. Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week Clarisse Hayden / So / Cairn University / Bangkok, Thailand / International Community School Hayden continued her dominant sophomore season, taking 1st place in the Bryn Athyn Invitational on Saturday, her third podium-topping finish on the season, clocking in at 24:22.7, a new personal best for a 6K and helping her team achieve a 2nd place overall finish. This is the fifth Runner of the Week award for Hayden, who won for the weeks of September 23, 2024, September 17, 2024, September 10, 2024, and September 3, 2024, after a First-Team All-Conference nod in 2023 and a runner-up finish at the Championship meet. Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week Matthew Woolcock / Jr / Penn College / Oil City, Pa. / Cranberry HS Woolcock completed the Lock Haven Invitational 8k course with his fastest time of the season, posting a finish time of 27:43.4. The Wildcat junior finished sixth among all D-III runners and 27th overall in the 180-person field. This is the second Runner of the Week award for Woolcock who earned the award on September 10, 2024. Last season Woolcock earned a First Team All-Conference award after a sixth-place finish at the United East Championships. Men’s Tennis Player of the Week Josh Jarvis / Sr / Lancaster Bible College / Kinzers, Pa. / Pequea Valley HS Jarvis led the Chargers to their first win of the fall season after going 2-0 on the day. Jarvis won in the number one slot of doubles 6-1 with his partner Cameron Tripp before earning a singles win at the number one slot as well. He won the singles match in a tightly contested competition 6-1, 4-6, and 10-5 in the tiebreaker. This is the second Player of the Week award for Jarvis, who previously won for the week of March 12, 2024, and earned a Second Team All-Conference nod in 2023 at #1 doubles. Women’s Tennis Player of the Week Ellen Buckley / Jr / Penn College / Birmingham, N.Y. / Chenango Valley Buckley earned two victories in her return to the court from injury in Friday's matchup against Kean. Buckley came back to win at No. 1 singles after dropping the first set, 3-6, 6-3 (9-7) and paired with Emlyn Kinley at the No. 1 doubles slot for a 6-1 victory. This is the second Player of the Week award for Buckley, who previously won for the week of March 22, 2023. Men’s Golf Player of the Week Jake Rotelle / Jr / Lancaster Bible College / Honey Brook, Pa. / Terre Hill Mennonite Despite the rainy weather, Rotelle shot his way to a career record and program record 67 (-5) at the Battle at Berkleigh at the Berkleigh Golf Club hosted by Kutztown. Rotelle's career day secured the top scorer for the event helping his team tie for fifth out of 14 teams. His round included six total birdies, three on the front nine and three on the back nine. This is the first Player of the Week award for Rotelle, and first for Lancaster Bible men’s golf since Kyle Ebersol won the award on October 11, 2022. Rotelle was the 2023 United East Rookie of the Year and a two-time All-Conference First Team honoree for the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
