United East Athletes of the Week - October 29, 2024

LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East conference has announced its Athletes of the Week for October 29, 2024.  Today will include Athletes of the Week for Men’s and Women’s Cross Country, Women’s Tennis, and Men’s Golf. 

These will be the final awards for Men’s and Women’s Cross Country, Men’s Tennis, and Women’s Tennis.  For Cross Country, the United East Championships occur this Saturday, November 2 at St. Mary’s College of Maryland.   Both men’s and women’s tennis schedules will now pause for the winter months before beginning again in March 2025.

This week’s selections included contests from Monday, October 21 through Sunday, October 27.  A total of 4 student athletes were recognized for their performances.

  • Runner of the Week

    Naomi Fay / Sr / Penn State Berks / Alburtis, Pa. / Brandywine Heights HS

    Naomi Fay finished 17th overall, out of 43 total runners at the Lebanon Valley College Last Chance Run Fast meet on Friday, October 25th posting a 6K time of 27:29.4.  This is the first Runner of the Week award for Fay, and first for Penn State Berks.  Fay earned a Second Team All-United East in 2023 after finishing 11th at the United East Championships.

  • Runner of the Week

    David Helms / FY / Lancaster Bible College / 

    First-year David Helms finished 11th out of a field with 83 runners posting a time of 27:30.1 at the Lebanon Valley College Last Chance Run Fast meet on Friday, October 25. This is the first Runner of the Week award for Helms.

  • Player of the Week

    Isabelle DePorre / Sr / Penn State Abington / Hickory, N.C. / Homeschool

    Senior Isabelle DePorre went 2-0 over Neumann University on Wednesday, October 23rd as Abington women’s tennis wrapped up their fall season.  At first doubles, DePorre teamed up with sophomore Laurie Flemming to earn the 6-3 win after trailing 3-2 early.  At second singles, DePorre defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-0 to clinch the match for Abington.  This is the first Player of the Week award for DePorre.

  • Player of the Week

    Jake Rotelle / Jr / Lancaster Bible College / Honey Brook, Pa. / Terre Hill Mennonite

    Jake Rotelle tied for fifth place on Monday, October 21 at the Lebanon Valley College Fall Invitational.  Rotelle’s 76 (+4), led the Chargers as the team finished fifth out of 18 total teams participating at the Lebanon Country Club.  On Sunday, October 27th, Rotelle posted a team-best 76 (+4) in the first 18-holes of the 36-hole LBC Invitational as the Chargers sat in fourth place overall

    This is the second Player of the Week award for Rotelle, who previously won for the week of October 1, 2024.  Rotelle was the 2023 United East Rookie of the Year and a two-time All-Conference First Team honoree for the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
