United East Athletes of the Week - October 8, 2024

LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East conference has announced its Athletes of the Week for October 8, 2024.  Today will include Athletes of the Week for Men’s and Women’s Cross Country, Men’s and Women’s Tennis, and Men’s Golf.

This week’s selections included contests from Monday, September 30 through Sunday, October 6.  A total of 5 student-athletes were recognized for their performances.
 


Women’s Cross Country

Runner of the Week
Seana Dougherty / FY / Lancaster Bible College / Lancaster, Pa. / Homeschool

Dougherty continues to show improvement each week finishing 48th overall out of 245 total runners at the competitive Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University. Dougherty clocked a time of 24:20.9, her best 6k time to date. This is the first Runner of the Week award for Dougherty.
 


Men’s Cross Country

Runner of the Week
Mitchell Gray / Sr / Lancaster Bible College / Schaefferstown, Pa. / ELCO

Gray and the Chargers competed at one of the region's biggest races of the season, the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University on Saturday. Gray finished 69th overall out of 373 total runners. He clocked a time of 25:46.2, six-seconds off his best 8000-meter time. 

This is the third Runner of the Week award for Gray in the 2024 season (September 17 & September 3) and 10th overall for the 2022 and 2023 United East Men’s Cross-Country champion.

 
 
Men’s Tennis

Player of the Week
Peng (Mark) Hou / So / Penn State Harrisburg / DaTong, China / DaTong Sports School

Mark Hou went a perfect 4-0 for Penn State Harrisburg during a 2-0 week for the Lions. In a victory at Albright on Tuesday, the sophomore teamed with Kevin Liang for a 6-2 win in the top doubles contest before rolling to a 6-1, 6-3 victory in the No. 1 singles outing. In a win at Lebanon Valley on Thursday, he and Liang earned a 6-4 decision in the top doubles matchup before he cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 win in the top solo showdown.

This is the second Player of the Week award for Hou, who previously won for the week of September 24, 2024.
 


Women’s Tennis

Player of the Week
Allison Wootton / So / Penn State Harrisburg / Portage, Mi. / Portage Northern HS

Allison Wootton recorded three victories from the top singles and doubles positions during a 1-1 week for Penn State Harrisburg. At Albright on Tuesday, the sophomore rolled to a 6-2, 6-4 win in the No. 1 singles showdown before picking up two more victories in a win over Lebanon Valley on Thursday night. Against LVC, Wootton teamed with Breanna DeSantis to secure a 6-2 decision in the top doubles outing before cruising to a 6-2, 6-2 win in the No. 1 solo matchup.

This is the seventh career Player of the Week award for Wootton who won six separate times in the 2023-24 season in addition to Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year honors. 
 


Men’s Golf

Player of the Week
Jack Lenox / Sr / Penn State Abington / Chalfont, Pa. / Pennridge HS

Lenox finished sixth overall at the Marywood University Fall Match.  He shot 81 for the afternoon (+10) on the par-71 course.  Lenox parred eight holes, including six on the front nine.  This is the first Player of the Week award for Lenox.
