General 2/6/2024 10:00:00 AM United East Athletes of the Week - February 6, 2024 LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East conference has announced its Athletes of the Week for February 6, 2024. This includes Athletes of the Week for both Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field. This week’s selections included contests from Monday, January 29 through Sunday, February 4. A total of 4 student-athletes were recognized for their performances. Men’s Indoor Track & Field Track Athlete of the Week Eric Gregory / Sr / Gallaudet University / Metairie, La. / East Jefferson HS Gallaudet University All-American sprinter Eric Gregory continues to erase his own indoor track and field school records. Gregory won the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.08 seconds last Sunday at the Richard Drake Invitational hosted by Virginia Wesleyan University in the Virginia Beach Sports Center. Gregory's previous school record time in the 400-meter dash was 48.76 that he set last year Feb. 24, 2023 at the Fasttrack Last Chance Invitational. Gregory along with senior Gareth Ashton (Austin, Texas), junior Walter Douglas (Sanford, Fla.) and Trey Johnson (Kyle, Texas) broke their own school record in the 4x400 meter relay by nearly six seconds with a time of 3:21.99 as they erased the 3.27.58 mark that happened back on Dec. 8, 2023 at the Bow Tie Invitational. Gregory placed third overall in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.00 seconds. This is the 9th Athlete of the Week honor for Gregory who is a two-time NCAA Division III National Champion (400m; 2022 & 2023; outdoors) as well as a four-time All-American. Field Athlete of the Week Ty Tindal / FY / St. Mary’s College of Maryland / Philadelphia, Pa. / Martin Saints Classical Ty Tindal set three school records at the Frank Colden Invite hosted by Ursinus College. Tindal set the school record in the indoor pentathlon with 2935 points and finished second overall out of 16 competitors. He also picked up a school record in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.89 to win the pentathlon hurdles race. Tindal's third school record came in the long jump as he won the event with a distance of 6.48m. Tindal currently sits in the Top 10 of the United East Indoor Performance List in the 60m, 60m Hurdles, 200m, 400m, High Jump, and Long Jump. This is the first Athlete of the Week honor for Tindal. Women’s Indoor Track & Field Track Athlete of the Week Oceana Brown / FY / Gallaudet University / Miami, Fl. / Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind Gallaudet University first-year sprinter Oceana Brown (Miami, Fla.) broke two of her school records here Sunday at the Richard Drake Invitational hosted by Virginia Wesleyan University. Brown placed third in the 60-meter dash and fifth in the 200-meter dash in the Virginia Beach Sports Center. Brown posted a record time of 7.92 seconds in the 60-meter dash which improves on her previous record time of 8.06 that happened back on Dec. 8, 2023 at the Bow Tie Invitational. Brown's time of 26.47 seconds in the 200-meter dash also erased her old record mark of 26.81 that happened back on Dec. 3, 2023 at the Holiday Kickoff Open. This is the second Athlete of the Week honor for Brown, who previously won for the week of January 23, 2024. Field Athlete of the Week - Skye Division Hannah Wetzel / Sr / Gallaudet University / Fremont, Ca. / California School for the Deaf - Fremont Gallaudet University senior jumper Hannah Wetzel (Fremont, Calif.) placed first in the triple jump with a mark of 11.00 meters last Sunday at the Richard Drake Invitational hosted by Virginia Wesleyan University in the Virginia Beach Sports Center. Wetzel also finished 3rd overall in the long jump with a mark of 5.05 meters. Wetzel also had a Top 10 performance in the 200-meter dash as she finished 10th overall with a time of 27.18 seconds. This is the fifth Athlete of the Week honor for Wetzel, who previously won for the weeks of December 12, 2023, May 2, 2023, April 25, 2022, and March 28, 2022 on top of the CSAC Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year award in 2023.
