Latham, N.Y. - Rising seniors, Nathan Whimsan and Cassidy Fredo were voted by peers to serve as Chair and Vice-chair of United East Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) for the 2024-25 academic year. Whisman will serve as chair and Fredo will assume vice chair responsibilities.
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) represents the Division III student-athlete voice in the Division III governance structure by reviewing legislation; identifying significant student-athlete issues; implementing national student-athlete based initiatives; encouraging community outreach; and enhancing Division III student-athlete involvement in and understanding of Division III in general.
University of Valley Forge’s Nathan Whisman (Jr. / Fisherville, V.A.) is a dual sport athlete and a member of the men’s basketball and volleyball program, pursuing a ministry leadership degree. Whisman currently serves as the president of his SAAC group on campus. The junior has contributed to the growth of Valley Forge’s SAAC program through community service initiatives dating back to his freshman year. Whisman also serves as a member of the NCAA national SAAC, representing the United East Conference. On the court he's found success as well, earning men’s volleyball Rookie of the Year in 2022, and consecutive All-Conference Second Team nods in 2022 and 2023.
Whisman looks to continue the growth and success of the United East conference SAAC through planned initatives and community service. “I am beyond excited to serve in this position ultimately to help our SAAC community grow together as one and build relationships that will last outside of the conference," said Whisman.
Keystone College’s Cassidy Fredo (Jr. / Washington N.J.) is a defensive specialist and captain for the women’s volleyball program, pursuing a degree in sports and recreation management. In addition to her duties as an athlete, Fredo also serves as the president of Keystone’s campus SAAC. Thus far as a member of her campus SAAC, Fredo has led initiatives ranging from volunteering at the Saint Francis soup kitchen, partnering with Catherine McAuely Canter gifting christmas gifts to kids, and supporting the Saint Joseph’s Baby Center. In addittion, holds leadership positions around the community such as special event planner for the for the student government, and serving as a marketing and event intern for Sodexo. Fredo continues to balance her athletic commitment earning weekly honor honors on multiple occasions.
Fredo looks forward to thriving in her role as a vice-chair, “I'm super excited to be a part of United East SAAC next year and to serve as Vice Chair. It's a chance to connect with new faces across the conference, each bringing their own unique perspective. Being a part of this community means fostering collaboration and growth, and I can't wait to see the positive impact we'll create together,” added Fredo.
Whisman and Fredo will assume their duties on August 1, 2024. “We are excited to have committed student-athletes who want to improve our conference SAAC,” said Assistant Commissioner, Tone Cockrell. “Both Nathan and Cassidy portray a strong passion toward not only campus SAAC but also the United East Conference SAAC,” added Cockrell.
