ST. MARY’S CITY, Md. - The 2024 United East Men’s Tennis Championship kicked off today with a match between top-seeded St. Mary’s College of Maryland and No. 4 Cairn University. The Seahawks downed the Highlanders, 5-0, to earn a spot in the Championship Final played this Saturday.
St. Mary’s got off to a quick 3-0 start, taking all three of the doubles flights. Kewae Shepherd-Johnson and Daoud Alkhalidi defeated their opponent, 8-1, in the second flight while Andrew Hand and Max Esztergomi won by the same score in the third flight. Boris Palmade and Nick Rohr allowed two sets to their foe but eventually took first doubles, 8-2.
In singles, Pomade continued his win streak against United East opponents as he won in the first slot, 6-0, 6-0. Esztergomi then wrapped up the match with a 6-2, 6-0 win at third.
