Seahawks Capture Presidents' Cup; Sweep Men's & Women's Titles

LATHAM, N.Y. - St. Mary’s College of Maryland has been awarded the 2023-24 United East Presidents’ Cup which recognizes the athletic achievements of its members annually. The Seahawks also swept the other two major awards, taking home the Top Overall Athletic Program Women’s Teams and Men’s Teams.

The Presidents’ Cup is determined by a scoring system which rewards a school for success during both regular season and postseason competition.

St. Mary’s College displayed athletic excellence through the entire year, as they maintained the top spot in the standings through all three seasons. The Seahawks demonstrated success in every sport, finding their way into the postseason of every sport sponsored by the United East. They garnered four team titles this year, including women’s cross country, men’s soccer, women’s lacrosse and men’s lacrosse. St. Mary’s College also found its way into the United East title game in baseball and men’s tennis and placed second in the men’s indoor track & field and women’s indoor and outdoor track & field.

"What a monumental achievement for the Seahawk athletics department and St. Mary’s College of Maryland to be awarded the United East President’s Cup for the second consecutive year,” remarked Crystal Gibson, Director of Athletics & Recreation at St. Mary’s College. “How we got here is not only with the tremendous work of our incredibly dedicated coaching staff, support staff and relentless efforts and selflessness of our student-athletes, but also due to unwavering support throughout the campus community. Our student-athletes continue to set the standard in the classroom, the competition field and with their work throughout the inner and outward community. This honor is a culmination of all these efforts and support, and we couldn’t be more grateful to represent the United East at its highest level.”

Penn State Harrisburg took home second in the standings, using titles in men’s and women’s basketball to move them up five positions in the winter and then titles in men’s and women’s tennis to maintain the penultimate spot.
