LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East conference has announced its Athletes of the Week for September 17, 2024. Today will include Athletes of the Week for Men’s and Women’s Cross Country and Men’s Golf.
This week’s selections included contests from Monday, September 9 through Sunday, September 15. A total of 3 student-athletes were recognized for their performances.
Women’s Cross Country
Runner of the Week
Clarisse Hayden / So / Cairn University / Bangkok, Thailand / International Community School
Clarisse Hayden earned a gold medal finish with a time of 26:51.9 at the United East Preview Meet, hosted by St. Mary’s College of Maryland, on Friday. Hayden’s time was more than 30 seconds ahead of her competition and marks her second first-place finish of the season. Hayden has finished on the podium in seven of her last nine races. This is the third Runner of the Week award for Hayden, who won for the weeks of September 3 and September 10, 2024.
Men’s Cross Country

Mitchell Gray / Sr / Lancaster Bible College / Schaefferstown, Pa. / ELCO
Mitchell Gray won the United East Preview Meet on Friday, earning a time of 28:30.3 while leading the Chargers to a second-place team finish. His performance was over a minute ahead of the competition and marks the second race he has won this season. This is the second Runner of the Week award for Gray in the 2024 season, who won for the week of September 3, 2024.
Men’s Golf
Player of the Week
Peyton Mussina / Sr / Penn College / Montoursville, Pa. / Montoursville HS
Peyton Mussina finished fourth in an 80-player field with a score of 74 at the Albright Fall Invitational on Monday. Mussina’s impressive showing helped Penn College to a fourth place finish in a 16-team lineup on the par 72 Olde Homestead Golf Club. Mussina returns for the 2024-2025 season as the reigning United East Golfer of the Year and has already made a splash on the season by medaling at the Mountain Valley Classic on September 7, 2024.
